Gen Chem : ACS FINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I took it freshman year for my gen chem class. I found it pretty easy compared to my professor's exams. I think I ended up scoring in the 90th percentile. I was not a good chem student. It's never been my strength.

It focused mostly on larger concepts, though you were expected to know important details.

If you studied and are a decent chem student, I'm sure you'll do fine.

Yes you should know the most basic and important concepts. It does not have questions on a lot of details. If you know the basic stuff, You'll be fine! :luck:

not too bad... I'm taking Biochem this semester and I heard that ACS final was a bitch

it was the easiest final i had ever taken

I agree. It was a really easy final. As long as you know the basics and understand what the big concepts are in the course you will do fine. Heck, as long as you know to the very basics, you should at least get 50 percent of the questions correct.

I remember the first question asking about something related to read a molecular mass, or something like that. Then the next set of questions were just as easy. The hardest part was the section where you had to do calculations.

I was not a fan of the ACS final. Studying MCAT kinda questions is probably good prep.

It covers everything from the beginning of general chemistry to the end, so that leads to a bunch of ridiculously easy questions about early material. You'll see questions along the lines of "which of these contains an ionic bond" or "whats the mass of a mole of carbon dioxide?" I thought it was a strange test in that you had to know the material pretty well to do very well on the exam, but to post a mediocre score, you just had to be conscious during the testing period.

it is really easy.
the chem club at my school get the acs review book that students can purchase for a small fee. you should check to see if your chem club is selling them.

I picked up the review book from the chemistry club earlier today (it was only 12 dollars).

Yeah, go to the library and check out the ACS practice test booklet. It will take you a couple of hours to go through. The test is multiple choice, go with natural logic. It's really not that bad but you should be as prepared as possible. Also, I'm pretty sure most of the time they give a good curve on the ACS scores. Good luck!

I took the ACS examination for Orgo. It was part of our Honors Orgo Curric. It was really...really. easy. So i can't imagine the gen chem one being any tougher.
