On topscore test one question 48 says: which one is not a "chlorate"?
A. ClO2 -
B. ClO3 -
C. ClO4 -
D. ClO4 2-
E. All are "chlorates"
The answer is d because ClO4 2- does not exist. But my gen chem textbook names A. ClO2 - as chlorite so is it still a chlorate because it is in the oxoanion family with chlorates? Please explain b/c I am confusing myself over things that should not be hard.
