I came across a question doing a practice exam. The questions is: Which of the following pH at room temperature is acidic? Simple enough. The choices are -1, 4, 7, 10. So I chose 4. However, the answer was -1 and 4. I thought that pH only ranged from 0-14...

That is correct. The -1 was probably a typo, since the original question had 1 as an answer choice. 1 and 4 would both be acidic though.

-1 is right. pH can be in negative ranges when you deal with Busidoacidopic theorem.. The theorem deals with measuring the pH ranges for very small changes. It uses the sigmoidal curve to interpret the data. So, yes the -1 can be the answer. I learned this in graduate school so i am very positive its correct..

lol jk.. I have no idea even if that theorem exists or not. that was definetely a typo and it they must have meant pH of 1 and not -1.. I was just messing with you.. haha

Ya they can, you gota be either in Chem or Biochem like your bro here to know this. pH can be negative. I remember chad sayin it ONCE in his videos too.

oh okay thanks.. I didn't know a negative pH was possible until now.
