Doing this online because nursing doesn't allow time for anything except night courses at my campus. Guess I'm worried about being "jipped" out of the foundation of chemistry, but it'll be a year before I make any chemistry progress if I don't.

So, not asking if you think it'll be okay, but any suggestions for how to make sure I get the basics. Anyone done this online? Anyone have tips for good chemistry intro books or websites, etc? I'd like something cut and dry in addition to my textbook to help me study.

Thanks.

Well, I personally am a reading/writing learner. It really depends on how you learn if you will actually "get" it...well that and how much work you put in and how well you naturally understand chemistry concepts.

There are a LOT of great supplemental books out there. Look on Amazon and browse through the Chemistry For Dummies reviews and other books like that that show up in your search. Find which one has the best reviews and get it if you need it. I never needed one for Gen Chem so I don't have a good one to suggest. I did use Calculus for Dummies in my Calc class and it was very helpful. :luck:

I'm planning to use the internet to reinforce concepts. Has anyone used the Spark products from Barnes & Noble (books, charts, flash cards)? I saw them and they look interesting, but I don't have a BN to drive to, so I can't go see them. Just want to know if they're on a lower learning level, because they're always next to ACT/SAT prep.

what nursing program did you go that didn't require gen chem 1 or 2 for that matter.

I did General Chemistry I online and it wasn't bad at all. My professor gave us a homework assignment every week which kind of forces you to study and I liked that alot. For exams, he sent out a great study guide to help. He also allowed the online students to attend his on campus class anytime we felt like it because he covered the exact same thing with them as he did with us, so everyone was on the same page. I would not suggest doing General Chemistry II online though because that one has TONS of calculations so you will want that classroom time to ask all of your questions.

It's a 2-year in Nursing, not a BS. The BS requires Gen 1 & 2; however, although there's a shortage of nurses and while everyone loves if you have your BSN, it's really not something that concerns ADN faculty.

I'M NOT THERE YET!
