I am starting medical school this fall and I am interested in coming back to my home state of Colorado to practice orthopedics. What, if anything, can anyone tell me about the CU ortho residency, and what it takes to get in?

You are best off getting involved with that department and talking to them. Look into a summer research fellowship.
