Could anyone who has attended, is attending, or just has any info about AUC please answer all or some of these general questions for me?

1.) What is the average MCAT/GPA for accepted applicants?

2.) How much does it cost to attend AUC? Is it more than the average US medical school? Are there loans available to cover the costs?

3.) How long do you have to stay on the island before you can come back to the US for clinical rotations/residency?

4.) What extra steps are needed to be able to practice medicine in the US, if you go to AUC?

5.) Is AUC seen as a reputable medical school/viable alternative to attending a school in the US? Is AUC just seen as a last option for students who can't get into US medical schools?

Hi
I am in my fourth of five semesters of basic science at AUC. Most of your questions can be answered here: http://www.aucmed.edu

We have a new dean who I believe retired from being the dean from a medical school in IL. He is really doing a good job on improving our recognition and setting up new rules that will make AUC a better place. We must now pass all the NBME shelf exams for all are classes and pass the Kaplan Step 1 sim. test before we are allowed to come back to the states to take the real Step 1. This is "filtering" out alot of people believe you me. The first time pass rates are going to start going through the roof in a few semesters. Rumors of increasing the min. pass from 70% to 75% are around the corner. 75% TO PASS A CLASS!!! That's ruff. Apply NOW before this place becomes too hard to get into with so-so numbers. These changes will all filter back to the states and things will get even better for us when we return. Getting in is much harder as they increased the stats needed this last semester.

Since I am a student, I can't tell you want those numbers actually are but I would guess around 3.3+ and 24-25 MCAT. About a year or so ago it was around 3.0 and 22-23 imo. This is just a guess and what the feeling is around school from the other students. The whole point in AUC is to come down here, study your butt off, and rock the step 1. In this regard; AUC is
now becoming that place. Only the strong minded will make it here from now on. I am sooo glad and proud I am at AUC now.
