So I have been wondering. Let’s say for instance I go to Stonybrook university as an undergraduate and do 4 years there for undegrad and my gpa is 3.5 and my dat is 21. Do I have a better chance to get into stonybrooks graduate dental school because I was an undergraduate at Stonybrook before than someone from another school who is applying to dental school that has a 3.7 and a dat of 23? Basically, do I have a better chance to get into Stonybrooks dental school because I took 4 years undergrad at their university than someone applying from another school?

(Btw the school, gpa, and dat scores are just examples)

You have a better chance because you're an NY resident and SB is a state school. Unless you had an in with the SB dental faculty/adcom/shadowed a dentist there write you a LOR then you probably wouldnt have a better chance than any other NY school.

I think your chances of being accepted would be better, assuming you were involved. For example, if you did undergraduate research at the dental school, chances are you would have made some connections that could speak on your behalf.

If you’re only comparing the stats of two NY residents, I think the person with higher stats would get in - irrespective of the school.

Stony goes for numbers. The 3.7 and 23 has a better chance than your 3.5 and 21 given you are both NY residents. If you are really trying to get into Stony dental and you don't have the numbers then you need to shadow (volunteer is what they call it) at their dental school and get to know the faculty and current students. They're the ones that conduct the interviews.

In short, really tough school to get into from their own undergrad. Of their ~44 seats there's usually less than 5 that actually went to undergrad there.

How did you get this information? Also is it possible to shadow at StonyBrook dental school if I am attending another college?

It’s possible, but unless it’s close you the college you currently attend and your schedule permits it you may not have enough time to make the commute.
