So, my school makes us take Step 2 early in 4th year and I just had a couple of questions about it. It seems like there are a couple of different Step 2 exams - on the Step 2 board it lists CS, CK, CE and PE. I have heard that one of these is basically a standardized patient exam (is this CS?) and another one covers the material that we should have learned during 3rd year rotations/ for shelf exams (is this CK?).

What resources do people typically use for Step studying? Is there a central book that people use analogous to FirstAid for Step 1? If so, what is it? I assume people use a Qbank as well - is USMLE World what people typically use?

I know it's still a couple of months away, but I'd like to get a general idea of what is looming around the corner. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

CK = Clinical Knowledge = Written multiple choice format like Step 1

CS = Clinical Skills = standardized patients.

Nothing as good as FA for step 1. I personally use Master the Boards USMLE Step 2. Uworld seems to be the consensus Qbank for step 2.

Did your school really not tell you anything about this?

Thanks for the reply. They haven't told us anything specific yet except that we need to take the Step 2 in a couple of months. I think we have an info session sometime in the summer. I just kind of wanted to get a jump on it b/c I didn't do so well on Step 1...

So, does the Step II CK only cover stuff from IM, Surgery, OB/GYN, Peds, and Psych?

Does it also cover EM or other material? I read an old post on here where someone mentioned that it would be worthwhile to take an EM rotation prior to taking this exam...
