Hello guys,

I wanted to get your guys opinions on General Surgery academic vs. community programs.

1. How do you choose which one you should do?
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
3. If you want to do a fellowship for sure after general surgery residency, should you not do a community program?
4. Amongst surgeons, what type of reputation does a surgeon going to a community program have versus an academic one? Is is similar to the D.O. versus M.D. argument?
5. In general are community programs less-inclined to be malignant/have long working hours as opposed to an academic program?

Thanks in advance.
