Hey, that sounds tough. However remember one thing, residency always ends and there is light at the end of the tunnel. As residents, I would tread lightly and just get through your 3 years and be done with this program. Put your time in and then get out without having any bad marks put on your file.
And yes, I feel for your group. However, your career can become threatened very quickly by one individual especially while your still a resident.
Also, maybe the residents can chip in for a new laptop or something that was destroyed as well for this unlucky person to help this resident in need.
