VA pay 5 cents for 1000 count of meformin 1 gm. It is insane, I look at the the bottle, and the plastic must cost more than 5 cents.

This was on Long Island. Definitely not Buffalo. Although one of the physicians students work with in Buffalo does drive a Bentley and use his black card for everything.

well the reason I was surprised is because I work in what is arguably the most upscale grocery store in the wealthiest neighborhood in Atlanta (don't live there though ) and I don't think I've ever seen a patient request something like brand antibiotics. I might see an occasional thyroid medication or antidepressant requested as brand, but never antibiotics. They're actually very cost conscious, which I think is smart.

How do you figure? My old store had customers that insisted on brand Amoxil and Z-Pak. If there's a brand being manufactured, people will request it.

As long as it is dispensed as brand less than the average of all medications, it will increase your rates. You don't need 100%. And with Topamax, Coumadin, and Yaz out there trying to ravage muh average, in comparison, this will help.

The people who you see spending like they're stupid are either the children of the money makers, or the 2nd wife/husband or something like that. The people who didn't actually earn the status, they just came in to it.

I am also excited about the possibilities that lie in seeing my low-income patients without insurance having a cheaper, better alternative to CAP here in some months when prices come down.

Essentially anyone who is spending someone else's money in my experience. And the dorks who think they can only get the best, which somehow translates to brand. Also, older folks moreso than younger people.

We got it tuesday of last week I think. Right after I got there that day we got a script for it and after a conversation with their insurance (anthem if my memory serves me correctly) they told us to run the brand because they havent yet put it into their formulary and probably wouldnt for at least another week. /sigh

One store I worked at, we had two older patients with profile notes that said "'allergic' to generics..."

If they ever wind up in the hospital, they'll be anaphylactic after a dose of something, and then if they don't get trade name EpiPen, that'll finish them off.

I always enjoyed the folks who would complain about the generic Protonix until they noticed the "PROTONIX" printed on the tablet.

I also like the druggies who request Greenstone alprazolam. I'm sure it's the only thing that puts you to sleep at night...the fact that you get brand name street value at generic prescription cost doesn't matter at all!
