Yo,

My bro is taking the Step I and was wondering what the best supplemental Step I genetics book is. Apparently it is increasing in question frequency. I've heard high yield (1999) was ok, but what are your thoughts on the Kaplan lecture series Biochem + Genetics book? Any other suggestions?

For the genetics on my exam FA and RR were more than enough. In hindsight I wasted too much time with the HY book. It's good but it was more complicated than anything on Step 1. The hardest questions were weird experiments which tested your ability to figure out what they were asking and in these questions HY didn't do any good.

BUMPWTEOAGR- BRING UP MY POST WITH THE EXPECTATION OF A GOOD REPLY, thats right, the acronym included even ARTICLES!

FA + Uworld = more than enough genetics...I wouldn't waste time on other resources

Haha, for a minute I thought we were talking about Genetics of the test taker  After browsing through SDN (and thinking back on my own encounters) maybe med students would consider altering their genetic makeup, slide in the brain cartridge Matrix-style, etc.

I agree that FA was more than enough for genetics. If one is particularly weak in genetics, maybe go through the Kaplan notes -- they don't change much each edition (that I found when checking out at 3 sets printed spanning 5 years.

If you like tables and good organized charts, a pretty good resource is the Kaplan med Essentials.

BTW, I'm not affiliated with Kaplan or own any interests.
