Hey guys,
I am stuck with some genetic problems and would appreciate if someone can explain them. 🙂
A woman carries a sex-linked lethal gene that causes spontaneous abortions. She has six children. How many of her children would you expect to be boys?
A. None
B. One
C. Two
D. Three
E. Four
The answer here is C , but shouldnt the answer be D?
If you cross XX with XY then half of the children are girls and half are boys. So when we have six children then the answer must be three right?
Please explain
What genetic information can be deduced if crossing of a male white pig with a female black pig produces 1 black and 3 white pigs while crossings of the same male pig with another black female pig results in 3 black and 1 white progenies?
I. White allele is dominant while the black allele is recessive
II. The white allele is recessive while the black allele is dominant
III. Both the black parents are recessive homozygotes if the white allele is dominant
IV. Both the black parents are heterozygotes if white allele is recessive
A. I & II
B. I & III
C. I & IV
D. II & III
E. II & IV
The answer here is D / II & III.
I know II is definitely right bb =white recessive allele and BB =black dominant allele. I m not sure about III , because it says the black parents are recessive homozygote= BB and the white allele recessive =bb. Crossing them would yield all black.
I do not understand this. Why is II also a choice?
Choose the correct sequence of genes of given the following recombination frequencies:
A-B, 20 map units
A-C, 15 map units
A-D, 20 map units
D-C, 35 map units
A. A-B-C-D
B. B-C-A-D
C. C-A-D-B
D. D-A-B-C
E. A-C-D-B
Why is the answer C , dont understand how to do this
Thanks for all the replies
