My math/chemistry teacher from my old school is a fricking genius. He knew High School math to the point of mastery. He got his BS in Chemical Engineering from Stonybrook University with a high GPA. He also flew all the way to the UAE to take the old MCAT ( out of 45) just to beat his sister( whos doing her cancer fellowship at Yale) in a bet who got a 28. He got a 36!
Studying only for 2 weeks! How the hell is that possible. Is it because chemical engineering integrates math, physics, chemistry, biology, critical thinking? Thoughts and opinions?

Extremely skeptical of people like this.

A close friend of mine claims to have a high IQ, never study, and aces all of his classes. It doesn't make sense as he skips most of his classes. He claimed to have never studied for orgo 1 or 2, yet he maintained a near 100% average in both classes. How does one ace an exam over material they've never seen before?
 
My high school science teacher went into the Navy after high school, became a SEAL, got out and graduated summa from Cal Tech in ChemEng, then did his PhD at Stanford. Taught AP chem on the side while doing research at the local Uni and moonlighted as a paramedic. Loves what he does and everyone loves him back.

Yea there are just people like that.

That's exactly what I thought at first, but what he told me was that he was doing graduate coursework , and intended to get a PhD in Applied Chemistry. He said he was just teaching and doing part time engineer consulting in the mean time. He just took the MCAT to see how well he could do. He has no interest in medicine.
 
I was never born with dyslexia, but if it feels like this then I would have never been able to finish high school. Still not sure if the title was intended to be genius or genuine, but I'm sure if they had an illicit affair and the offspring contained a hereditary defect then this would be comparative in nature to the thread title.

YEAH idek what in the world ur talking about regarding dyslexia ,but the title was misspelled on purpose. Have anything to contribute to the thread? Thx!

Why did he waste money on a $800-$1,200 plane ticket from New York to United Arab Emirates (UAE)and a $200 test fee to take the old MCAT when he had no intention of attending medical school? How did he take the MCAT in the UAE when it's not one of the international testing sites for the AAMC? Did he find a magical copy on an Abu Dhabi oil rig during his short stint of consultations for OPEC?
 
He could have gotten a 47 but at the end of the day is still a high school teacher. Who cares.

He was going there for something else anyways, and his sister was in residency at the time, so apparently they had a bet.

All this time I was thinking people aren't smart or dumb (unless they have a learning disability) and only hard work pays off, but

Yea, there are tons of science teachers who are just upset with their lives, because they got rejected from med school. But this teacher mentioned it in passing 6 months into the year, and never spoke about it again.
