Hi there.

I'm an M1 at KU Med starting in July, and I know they say its too early to have your heart set on a specialty - but I feel like Radiology would be a great fit for me. There is a residency program at my school('s hospital), and I'm wondering if I'd have greater odds of matching to it as a student there. I've thought of taking a year off to do research with the department if possible to also increase the odds.

My options for residencies will be limited, as I have joint custody of my children and want/need to stay local if at all possible, hence the importance of knowing what my chances may be of getting into this specific program.

Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Not a particularly competitive location, do well in class, score >240 on step 1, and don't be annoying and you have a great shot.

hi! congrats on starting medical school. Be active with your radiology interest group, shadow the physicians, show interest, etc.

Also, as it is getting more and more competitive for US residencies, have back up plans for your dream program (whether that be leaving the geographic area, re applying the following year, or going into another field).

Thanks, guys! That points me in the right direction. I appreciate the responses.
