I just found out I was accepted into GW's post bac program beginning in May 2015. Because it is a brand new program, I'm a little bit hesitant about how well it will prepare me for medical school/ if this will hurt my chances of being accepted into a med school in the future. The advising, classes, location, etc looks great, but I'm wondering if i should just go for another program that is more well known (NYU, Georgetown, etc.).

It sure is new I never heard of it! Since you've been accepted have you received any detailed info about linkages? Is this the only place you were accepted to?

Congrats on your acceptance! I also have been offered an invitation for their Masters Program in Anatomical and Translational Sciences. This is apparently an extension of the Graduate Certificate Program. I also would love any insight if anyone is able to contribute. Perhaps any George Washington Medical students.

Congratulations, I have not gone to GW Medical school, but I have two friends who graduated there a few years ago and are just finishing up their residencies. I have only heard good things from them about the professors and the school as a whole! They have made a lot of changes in the last few years to their medical curriculum and it really looks and sounds like they are moving in a very good direction. Deciding where to go based on how well known a program is depends a little on how good your application is already. When talking to my advisor she said that if one's application is already pretty solid going anywhere and doing very well there is going to be what matters. Especially for postbacs you want to make sure you pick the school that best fits your personality and learning style because you have to do well in the basic sciences regardless of where you go. Make sure there is good support for the students and definitely find out about linkages at the various schools. I know GW just added a linkage for their graduate certificate program so there might be one for their postbac as it gets more established. Best of luck!

I just got accepted to their Graduate certificate program in Anatomical and Translational Sciences, so kuyapatz, we might have some classes together next year 🙂

Congrats Reesie!! GWU looks like they're establishing a really great program (and quite rigorous), its been a while since I have been in school so I am a bit scared and excited all at the same time! I am sure we will get a chance to see each other in the fall. Looking forward to meeting you! :soexcited:

Reesie, when did you apply? I am waiting to hear back from their GCATS program and want to get a better estimate of when that will be. I have a deadline to accept two offers from another school, so I hope they tell me soon!

kuyapatz, I agree, I am pretty excited about the program, it looks like a great curriculum that will really prepare us for medical school!

ksturday, I believe they are just starting to send out acceptances, so I would expect a decision soon! They really seem to be on top of it 🙂 What other schools are you deciding between? Best of luck!

I applied to three programs at Tulane, two of which I've been accepted to and the other I'm still waiting to hear back from. I'm glad you got in to GW's program! It looks awesome. Hopefully I will know by next week if I got in to GW. Thanks!

Hey! I applied to the GCATS program as well, and for those of you who have been accepted, do you mind telling me your stats? I'm deciding between a few programs as well, but this program has the limelight!

Congratulations on your GWU Grad Certificate Acceptance! Do you know if this program qualifies under FAFSA or for any Federal Student Aid? I'm torn between a couple of programs.

Hey, my GPA was about a 3.7 for undergrad and sGPA was about a 3.5, I don't have the exacts on me right now. I haven't taken the MCAT yet, I plan to in August I think. a$adMoney, where else are you deciding between? I met with the director at GWU and that made the decision easy for me, it also depends on what exactly you are looking to get out of the year.

Mrose85, from what I found this program does not qualify for FASFA or other federal loans, I have been looking into private loans and have found the discover student loans to be pretty resonable.

So, I got an email from the program director at GWU asking me to call her (this was a month or more ago), so I did, and during the call she suggested I would be a better fit for the 2-year program and recommended that I switch my application from the graduate certificate program to the 2-year Masters program. I definitely took that into consideration, but with that masters program being twice the price of the others I've been accepted to, I've decided to go to Tulane for Biochemistry instead. I was really wanting to go to GW, but I want to minimize the debt I acrew before medical school and the Biochem program seems pretty great (good professors, Grand Rounds Externship, Biochemistry Shelf exam, etc.). I don't think I will regret the decision.

The director at GW said the certificate program wasn't elligible for certain loans that the 2-year program is, but I'm not exactly sure what that means in terms of which loans you can and cannot take out for the certificate program.

I wish you guys the best of luck!

Good luck, Ksturdy, that sounds like a great program as well 🙂

Update on the financial aid, the 1 year cert. program just got accepted for the FASFA! I don't know how much is possible to get but it is at least something!

Does anyone know where they are going to live? I recently decided to attend the GCATS Program and am open to any housing suggestions... Thanks!!!

Congratulations! I just submitted an application for an apartment in DC and since I am not far from there right now I looked at a lot of places. What things are important to you in an apartment? You can also private message me if you want and I can see if I can help.

Hey guys! So I've been looking around at PBPM programs and the linkages and found a consortium of schools that have GWUSOM as one of their linkages. I'm really interested in GWU-PBPM but was interested if anybody has been accepted to the program and knows the exact requirements for GWUSOM as their own linkage to their own med school? I read on Brandeis's website that the requirements for the linkage to GWUSOM was an undergrad GPA of 3.6 and a PBPM GPA of 3.5- they also said that it was conditional on the MCAT score. Anybody know the actual requirements for the GWU-PBPM linkage to GWUSOM? It says once you are accepted into the GWU-PBPM program then they will tell you the requirements...

@ksturdy would you mind sharing your stats? I actually just found out about the GCATS program and sent in my application today ): Maybe it is too late... Also why did the director say the 2 year masters program was a better fit for you?

Hey all!

So for those of you who are currently in the program this year... what do you think?? and is this program reputable to help students obtain entrance to MD or DO schools?

Thanks for the help guys! 🙂

I'm hoping for some feedback too.

Current student, a few things you may want to note (as of 2015-2016 year, unsure if/what changes will be made for 2016-2017 year):
1. Linkage is dependent on entrance statistics. Namely, science GPA, overall GPA, college major, and you can NOT have taken the MCAT more than once (this includes voided attempts).

2. The GCATS and MATS programs do have small sizes, however, the classes are shared with undergraduate students (and a very few number of other graduate students). This essentially negates the benefit of small class sizes.

That being said, there are some really great professors and some good opportunities to get involved in research. If you can manage your time and are self-motivated, there is ample time to study for the MCAT.

Hey!
I was wondering how competitive the GCATS program is, if anyone knows?
