I just met a woman who was in her third year as an EM resident at Oakland Highland. She went to Georgetown med and told me some really disturbing things about her clinical years.
1. During her third year, they fired all the phlebotomists in the hospital and the medical students were required to do many of the blood draws so instead of surgery starting at 6am on non-call nights, she had to get there at 3:30am. she said it affected many of her rotations and that many hospital staff viewed medical students more like techs.
2. She said that during her fourth year, they allow very few away rotations because they need the med students as de facto staffers to work in the hospital. she said she felt this affected her breadth of clinical experience and match possibilities.
so, there you have it. I think things may have gotten better since then. the real question to ask yourself is whether it is hard in an educationaly beneficial way or is it hard because you are payin 50k+ to get pimped by Georgetown hospital.
