I wanted to let those of you who are currently waitlisted in the "Highly Select Pool" that there is some movement. I interviewed mid-November and was waitlisted mid-January. To my total surprise, I was called last night (Sunday) by the person who interviewed me and was told that I had been accepted. He said that the letter was sent out on Friday but the school gives the interviewers the chance to call and tell the good news.

For those still waiting, I sent a total of two letters to Dr. Hall stating the reasons I wanted to attend Georgetown and why I thought the school was a good match for me.

Good luck to all those still waiting!

-Jeff

congratulations, bahkara! and thanks for the info 🙂

CONGRATULATIONS!!!🙂

First of all, congrats Bahkara!!! I'm very happy for you....unfortunately today i got the 'highly select' letter as well...i'm pretty bummed cause it's definitely my first choice school. Anyhow, can you please tell me the specifics for writing the letter again, according to what Ms. Sullivan said, ie, how many paragraphs it is supposed to be, what were some of the things you talked about, etc. I really hope this works cause i'm so dead set on going here (over USCF too, which some people think i'm nuts!!!!). Thank you and congrats again.

Oh yeah, Lola, if you read this, did you get your letter today as well???

Its Dr. Wall, not Dr. Hall. Its a 3 paragraph "persuasive" letter stating why you want to go to Georgetown. Thats according to Ms. Sullivan. It can be addressed to Dr. Wall, c/o the Adcom at Gtown.

surfdevl 🙁 sorry you didn't get that outright acceptance! however, from what i understand it seems hard to get one (if you didn't go to gtown, aren't in their master's program, didn't go to holy cross or another jesuit school, etc...). it sounds like you can honestly say it's your #1 choice, so you should have a fair shot with a letter of intent. as texasguy said, it's a 3 paragraph persuasive letter addressed to dr. wall. i'm not sure what the format should be. anyone else?
1. why you want to go
2. what you'd contribute
3. why it's a good match for you personally
i dunno. anyone else have any ideas? how about an intro and conclusion? i'm not too familiar with the persuasive letter format.
i have not heard from them yet, though you are making me very nervous now as i thought i wouldn't hear for a couple more weeks! my mail doesn't come until later in the day, unless they mailed it to my parents' house. if that's the case it should come tomorrow probably.

Thank you Lola for your reassuring words. Here's hoping you get the big envelope tomorrow!😉

Damn, and i thought i was all done with writing letters and essays. And no pressure too....perhaps the 3 most important "persuasive" paragraphs of my life. I never was a great salesman, couldn't even sell wrapping paper in 5th grade. Do you guys think another letter of recommendation from my AmeriCorps boss, who is an NP, would help or should i just send that 3 paragraph letter?

Surfdevl,

I know how you feel. I was waitlisted at most of the schools I interviewed at, even those I thought I would be accepted outright. For Georgetown, I took the advice of people here on sdn and was persistant in letting them know Gtown was where I wanted to be.
After receiving my waitlist letter, I immediatly sent out the 3 paragraph love letter. About 3 weeks later, I sent another letter basically saying the same things as the first, but re-emphasizing how and why Georgetown is a good match for me personally. I mentioned several of the positive aspects I observed during my interview day using them as examples. For my second letter, I also said that I would seriously consider withdrawing my applications from the other schools I had applied to if I was accepted to Gtown.
I had planned to write another letter this week but luckily the first two seemed to have worked. From my understanding they want to accept those who really want to go to the school. So make sure they know it.

There is definitely some movement on the G'Town "highly select pool" list. I didn't get the phone call from my interviewer, but I got a big phat envelope in the mail yesterday, with letters from Eugene Ford and Dr. Wall to read with me green beer. Stoked! The Chronic is blazin once again and I wish y'all the best of luck in hearing from them. Keep your hopes up and you'll be just fine. BTW, I interviewed in November, was placed on the highly select list in January, and accepted in March.

oh yeah chronic! that's awesome 🙂 have you decided where you're going?

Thanks lola! Georgetown is one of my top choices, and I am waiting to hear from the other two. For right now, I will be heading to DC this fall. I loved the city and I know lots of people at G'Town med. It is a great place to be, without a doubt. Did you write the letter of interest to them? It is definitely a good idea...Keep checkin your mailbox, as I think more and more highly select people are going to get in.

gtown is one of my top choices as well. dc has been by far my favorite city of the places i interviewed. i'm still waiting post-interview for a decision... if i get the highly select letter, i will definitely write a letter of interest.

yeah for chronic- maybe it was the hawaiian shirt is good luck for you... HAPPY FOR YOU:clap:

k-

thank you much...maybe it was the fact that yesterday it didn't rain and was beautiful outside...maybe it was the luck o' the irish that earned me an acceptance on saint patty's day...maybe it was the hawaiian shirt...maybe it was our lunch at the med cafe...maybe it was the fact that yesterday i actually ate breakfast...whatever it was, it was something...

Congrats ChronicMD! Glad to see you got off the highly select list. Did you write more than one of those 3 paragraph letters and did you send anything else in like additional recs??

P.S.-Anything Lola???

surfdevil-

i wrote one letter of interest, and it was less than a page long...but it was three paragraphs, whatever that's worth. i didn't go by ms. sullivan's outline (mainly cuz i forgot everything she said on interview day), but i just wrote on why i would want to be there and what the school means to me. i didn't send in anything else, although i know lots of students at g'town med school, and i'm wondering if they did any battling for me (after i told them i was on the highly select list). from what i have been told by them, there is a lot of movement off that list, so keep your hopes up. the waiting game sucks...who knows, but write your letter and keep the faith.

I just want to emphasize what has been said already, more or less. I also interviewed in November, was wait-listed and am now accepted! I am so excited about going there in the fall!
Anyways, for those of you still waiting, don't be worried about writing the letter. As long as you are sincere in your interest of Georgetown, are able to be yourself, and are able to show that in your letter, you will be fine. I would also suggest calling to make sure they get the letter, etc (they keep track of when you call.) Good luck everyone!

Also, the other 2 that got in, e-mail me at [email protected], it would be cool to get to know my future classmates a bit!

Just curious but do you guys know or have heard of how many people actually send in the letters of interest/intent after receiving the highly select letter? I think Ms. Sullivan might have said something about it at the interview but i might have zoned out at that point. I just wanna get a gauge of how much competition there is in the highly select pool.

Congrats Bagdad and hopefully me and Lola will be able to join you in the fall!

Congratulations, Bahkara! I was just ecstatic when I heard you were accepted to Georgetown. I know you are going to be one heck of a physician, and you do seem like an excellent match for Georgetown. Now go out and have a six-pack and celebrate- you deserve it!
