Hey Juno, I'm in the same boat. I finished my application 3/4 and they should have received all my supplemental forms by 3/14, but only today has my application page said I was complete on 3/22. So I wonder if Zahque means 3-4 days is after the website says I'm complete? I hope so. My MCAT is only a 30 and everybody else on SDN who has gotten in already seems to have a 32+...

don't worry about sdn - it tends to overrepresent higher scores mcat. and the 3-4 day turn around i was referring to was from the day i received the "you are complete" email to the acceptance. i honestly didn't go back to even look at the website once i finished submitting the application.

Yeah, don't underestimate this. SDN totally skews to over-achievers and nerdy types that... anyway. HizzouseIsMyHizzle, your score (30) is really good and you should be proud of it. Isn't it like 80th+ percentile? You did well.
I recieved my acceptance email about three weeks after I sent everything in. I actually got that email one day before the website said I was complete, so I think the admissions people meet like once every two weeks and do stuff. Waiting sucks but it's a part of life. Go play a game (chutes and ladders?) in the interim. It'll totally help pass the time.

House, don't sweat your score. I'm a current SMP, and there are a HUGE number of us this year who are 28-30. I would imagine the next class would be the same.

You're actually probably very competitive. As long as there are no major issues on the rest of your app (aside from GPA - we all seem to suffer from that malady) I would not be surprised to hear that you will be accepted.

Good Luck! :luck:

Sorry, M, you'll only get it if I go and right now I'm still waiting to hear from BU. I'm gonna take a year off from applying, I want to make sure I choose the path that's going to get me the most success. And I have family in Boston.... It would make life in the cold a little easier.
Of course, if I go to GT you'll definitely be able to booze it up on my tab.

i applying to boston as well so your tab is not be safe 🙂 aside from having family, why would you go to Boston over GT? and would you do it in one or two years?

Cool. Well, a promise is a promise so I can't weasel out of it now.
There are a bunch of reasons I might choose BU over GT: BU seems a bit more comprehensive. GT would improve my academic credentials, but BU would address academic things, research dealies (if you need it), they have a program set up to help you get clinical ECs, and there's probably other stuff. I love other stuff. I also like that I may have a chance to do clinical research as part of the BU program. I have a lot of basic research experience, so I'm pretty confident that BU's thesis requirement ain't gonna be but a thang. On the other hand, if you all you need is academic help, GT seems like the best program out there.
I also think I'd take 2 years. My test scores should be good for 2 years, and I'm a ***** (yes, I'll admit it!) for reputation. So I'm happy to spend 2 years to improve my app as much as I can. I think more students from the BU Masters Program enroll at BU SOM than do students from GT's SMP in GT's SOM. (But I could be totally wrong!) I just don't know if GT would be my best bet. Also, even though I love DC, Boston >> DC. (I say this as an impartial observer. I live in Albuquerque & I have a vitriolic hatred of the East Coast. But Boston seems like a better place to get drunk on weekends and do stuff than DC.) As far as family in Boston, well, I like my brother but I hate his wife. I'm not going to talk about all the ways that I hate her but it's a long list. How does that fit in?
Anyway, that's just me.
I'm not sure what you need. I think you got shafted because you applied late. You've also talked about your PS sort of, uh, sucking (mine is like a hoover, trust me, yours has to be better). Your grades and your test scores and your ECs should have gotten you in this year. That's frustrating for me to see and I'm sure it's more frustrating for you. Anyway, I hope your MSU interview went well and I'm sure you'll kick ass at your Drexel interview now that you've got one under your belt. I'm not sure what people do with interviews once they are under their belts but whatever, that's your business.

Thanks all for the info, I guess I'm gonna check my mail and email daily now.

Good luck to all of you!

the thesis requirement is no real biggie. i did a straight MA at BUSM but had GMS friends in that program. u can choose to do a library based or research based thesis. one person i know worked in a lab and did the research thesis in 2 yrs and he got into MD PhD at BUSM but he got help from our PI/dept chairman who is on the MD PhD adcom since his MCAT < 30 (but he had done well in the GMS MAMS). my other friend did the library thesis and never stepped foot in a lab and finished in 1 yr and is now at a DO school.

from what i know about GT's SMP/SOM and BU's MAMS/SOM, i would have to agree.

Thanks for the info, alchemist. (if/when I have questions about the school or the neighborhood I'm going to PM you.)

i meant that i didn't do the MAMS but i did one of BUSM's other MA programs. i got an MA in pharmacology with a lab based thesis in a molecular neuroscience topic.

sure. i lived in jamaica plain close to the school and loved it - artsy, hispanic, little bit of caribbean area. i also lived in brighton for a year but that was a little farther away - its closer to their main, not the med campus. boston is pretty expensive esp if u don't have roommates or live in the back bay.

AUGHH!! I need to vent, and what better place to do it than on SDN?

So I'm sure everybody else gets along great with secretarys and coordinators and with whoever picks up the phone, but if I get one more person who treats me like I don't know what the hell is going on I am going to break something. I called GT about my status and the woman finally answered her phone only to state the obvious that there is a difference between the graduate center who receives the applications and the SMP program. She continually cut me off, not letting me finish a question, and just assumed that her answer was good enough. And she repeated herself using phrases like, "you have to understand..." So I submitted my application a month ago, and apparently I have to wait 4 more weeks... or at least 4 weeks when SHE finally receives my application because apparently the girl, ya know, like, is, out of town? and ya know, she is the person, like to bring the paperwork over here, so like i can't do anything about it. GRRRR!

disclaimer: that's not actually how the woman sounds, but that's how I was treated and how it sounded like GT operates. Honestly, is there really only one person who knows how to bring an application from one department to another? Is it THAT hard? and I don't want to hear about how she was nice to anybody else, because she was a B*TCH to me.
