Hey,

I am a student currently (and very strongly) considering the Georgetown Post-Bacc program. I am a current undergrad and am looking to hear from people who have been accepted, those who have finished the program, and those currently in it! If you could, can you please tell me your gpa before applying, things they may look for, if it is hard to get into, how it is once you are in, and where you are now! Did it help?

Thanks everyone!!!!!!

You are not graduating undergrad until 2009 and yet you are already thinking of expensive post-bac programs? Why not just take the pre-reqs at fairfield, which is already extremely expensive and try to avoid the post-bac down the road?

whops! that would be a typo in my signature! haha. I just fixed it- class of 2008, sorry for the confusion. I only have one year after the current one, and not enough time to rush it, especially with my courses and a study abroad for my major in the works.

This thread also is intended to be a resource for all interested in the Georgetown Post Bacc program. Anyone who posts, don't worry about including just the info requested. If you have anything else that might benefit anyone else, please add it.

(This is also just for the post bacc in premed, not the special masters programs...)

Even if you have only a year it seems silly to go spend $40K on the Georgetown program when you could simply delay graduation a semester or a year at your current university and complete your pre-reqs.

I am currently attending a school where it is just as expensive to go another year. My situation is unique with many factors (one of which studying abroad, actually saving me money), and I have gone over the time table thing with my advisor many times, but thank you very very much for your advice though...

. Again, I don't want this thread to be about ME (however if anyone has any personal tips for me, please feel free to PM ME! i'll def read them!!!),
but I would like to get a general flow of information from people's interactions with this program [ Georgetown PBPM ]. Don't be shy people!!

As you will soon see, I have only found 1 guy on here that has done Georgetown's Post-Bac program. He is in medical school now and therefore doesn't come around much.

He recommended the program, but to me, it just seems entirely too expensive.

Does GT have a linkage? I didn't see on their website that they do. I think it's a lot to pay for a program with no linkage. You have a LOT of tuition bills coming up that will only get bigger, classes @ many post-baccs are only a few thousand per semester (I know for HES it's roughly $850/class). Without them giving you something special, I don't see how it's worth the $$. If you have money to burn, I suggest you look into a program with a linkage at least.

Georgetown doesn't have any linkage agreements, which is to its detriment from my research. They have a high success rate for applicants, but you still have to roll through a glide year and that defeats the purpose of an expensive post-bac from what I can find.

You would be better off taking courses at UMD's Science in the Evening program and spending 1/2 the cost.

Are you guys talking about the undergrad post-bac or the SMP (special masters program)?

This is a general Question to throw out there for any people currently in the program or who have finished it.

Housing:

Has the University been helpful in helping you find a place? Are you allowed to live on campus in any way? Has anyone done this?

You can't live on campus, living right by the school would cost you a fortune so if you are living off of loans I don't recommend it. I have been in the DC area going on 3 years so if you are in need of housing help, I'm happy to give advise.

some physios have actually lived on campus; contact housing to find out what's going on with that

From my research it seems like Georgetown's undergrad post-bac (not the SMP) is a waste of money. It will end up costing you around $40k and there is nothing you get for that money. No linkages, etc....

Someone that went to UMD's Science in the Evening Program would be just as prepared for medical school and have spent half the cash, more like 1/3 even. Plus, I spoke with the head of the program over there and they said now they permit their SIE students to get letters from UMD's undergraduate pre-health committee, which is all that G-town provides.
