I just found out about the Georgetown SMP this week. I have decent credentials, with a 3.3 gpa and a 30 MCAT, but I am wondering if I may be wasting my time applying because it is so late in the year. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

There is a yahoo forum board where you can ask Dr. Myer exactly that. He runs the program and I have found him very helpful and pretty honest. My guess is that he will tell you to go and apply but do it very quickly, like get all your stuff in by the end of this week (its so easy to appply - just send in your AMCAS basically). They are going to re-review the "competitive pool", people put on hold soon, so you will want to get an initial review before those people. Also since they hold a good number of spots open until later in the cycle for people who finally realize they arent getting into medical school this year.

According to Meyer's previous posts in the Yahoo board, your stats are almost exactly the average for accepted students in previous years.

Here is the general physios yahoo group

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/physios/

There is also a SMP survival guide pdf file in the yahoo group that you can download and take a look at it. It is very informative.

About the application, your stats are definitely competitive. Make sure to ask Dr. Myers. Get your AMCAS application ready ASAP and the recommendations as well. Once the applications and LOR are sent make sure to check if the applicaiton is complete. If you really really want to attend GT SMP Dr. Myers know about it as well.

I've been complete since the 23rd. How long does it typically take to hear back from them?

It really depends on a lot of factors such as competitiveness of your application. Not only GPA and MCAT but other EC, personal experiences, essay and so on.

I was not accepted until middle of July because my LORs never got there and I had to get it sent again. There were some people who were not admitted until the very last minute in August when orientation had begun. So even f you do not hear from GT SMP right away it does not mean that you will not get in.

If your application is complete and if you are still in school, I would just forget about it for now and concenrate on your grades this semester. Once you have the grades and if you did very well send an update of your grades for the Spring. Improvement in your grades are very welcomed.

Good luck

James

My application was complete on the 20th and still haven't heard from them.

Does the letter of rec have to be specifically for SMP? I sent in LOR that are the same as the one i sent to medical school.

It does not have to be specifically for SMP. LOR for medical school is perfectly fine.

is there a way to check if your application is complete?

Log in to your application and it tells you which of your materials are in and when you are complete.

I am "currently under review" and I had to bug them for two weeks for them to finally tell me (after my application status page said I was complete).
