last year, i wrote one of my best essays for georgetown. It took them only 10 days to reject me. I really doubt the adcom at georgetown read my essay. i think they just took my check and discarded the rest of my application.

in a recent thread, i saw some very qualified applicants getting rejected by georgetown. Now, I really question whether or not I should submit my georgetown secondary. I feel that they are looking for specific qualities in the application pool...perhaps students who have deep religous devotions. if i don't have the quality they are looking for last year....they won't find it in me this year.

So i have my $100 check in front of me...questioning whether or not i should mail it. you know...this $100 can translate into 2 weeks of food..

Wish I found out earlier. I'm just sitting here waitiing for my rejection. My stats aren't stellar and EC's average so I'm assuming that the no-go is impending.

by the way...for those who were interviewed/accepted to georgetown...wtf did you write on your secondary essay? did you bs your way through about how much you believe in cura personalis? did you say that your uncle's aunt's uncle's grandfather's niece was a congressman?

Totally agree ... more than one person has told me that most applicants need to have some sort of family connection to the school.

i'm not religious, my parents didn't go to georgetown, and my numbers aren't off the charts, but i got an interview... i do go to one of more well-known schools and i'm from california, maybe they like that.. diversity?

i agree that they're very hard to figure out... i think they realize a lot of people with very good numbers won't go there, so they don't bother because frankly those students won't bother going there either. the other thing is that they know which students will fit there and which won't because they're unique in a lot of ways... for instance, i don't think they want someone who's more into research than the clinical side because almost none of their students does research on the side... which is unusual for medical schools of georgetown's caliber. they do have EXCELLENT match numbers for surgical specialties (almost as good as the top 10 schools), so they probably aren't into primary care all that much either.

Haha, on their essay, I wrote about how I would like to do research there since they have a new research center built there. I thought all schools want some research. Adds to prestige and funding, but i guess g-town is an exception.

i know, i actually found out about their lack of emphasis on research from a resident who recently graduated from there... it's weird, but i think you have to just look at whether each school will fit you and your interests more than whether their numbers fit yours after a certain point... 🙄

The guy I talked to told me to save my money unless I had money to spend. So, I peaced out on that secondary. Atleast, the guy was being honest....

i'm a little skeptical of how "honest" that guy was being considering he made his comment solely based on your mcat and gpa and about half the accepted class obviously has an mcat below the mean... i'd say he was being a jerk more than being honest.

I just got a Georgetown interview invite today. Oddly enough, as mentioned, I spent 1/3 of the paper talking about research and I am FAR from being rich. Haha. Nor did I go to a well known school. Just goes to prove: ROLL THE DICE! IT'S A CRAPSHOOT!

Mine was single-spaced. Leave some space on bottom for signature and date! Heard a lot of people forget that.

How was the interview? Most of the feedback I read so far have been positive....except for the insanely high tuition and cost of living in DC.

I'm also not religious and also have no family connection. My numbers are average. I have international health experience and wrote about that and how it relates to my current research work. I'm not from a well known school however. And I'm older--25. I did get an interview so I'm not exactly sure what they're looking for...

isn't it comforting in an odd way when you are shocked to receive an interview invite from a school? it's one of those things where you think you understand what the school wants when you apply, but after they ask for an interview you just go "hmmm, i guess i don't reaaally know what they're looking for"... i thought some of the same things that people on this thread mention as stereotypes about georgetown. ironically, the fact that they invited me for an interview makes me wonder what they really want and at this point, i'm not even too sure of what to talk about in my interview. i was more confident about georgetown before i got the interview.

Your confidence in the interview shouldn't change because your perception of the school has. Just be yourself and not try to "fit" what you think the school wants. The school may see through your acting if that's what you do.

Maybe your confidence in GOING TO a school should change because it is not what you think it will be. But you won't know that until you get there at the interview. I wouldn't worry too much.

i interviewed at gtown few weeks ago. let me tell you, they're really awesome groups of people. they were very kind and respectful, including all members of staff. my interviewer was such a warm person as well. don't worry too much. you're actual interview doesn't start until 2 PM, after you start orientation at 9AM, so hopefully all you're anxiety will be relieved by that time.

I got a rejection from GEorgetown 5 business days after my application processed (8/26) and rejection post marked (9/2). i knew a student on the admissions committee who looked into why it was so quick: they use a point system and my numbers didn't cut it - 10V10B9P S 3.55gpa 3.1 science gpa.

so if you have really decent numbers, dont' waste your money or time writing an essay or applying.

they did not care aobut my letters of recs (from highly ranked reserachers) or my research this past year (will prob publish) or any other of my extracirrics (and I have TONS) or my essay.

I also know of people who got rejected with stellar numbers (38mcat 3.6 princeton GPA).

you're right... i think it was more the result of that initial surprise than anything else. i had believed those stereotypes to exist as well when i applied.

I don't know what they're looking for either....I had a 4.0 GPA and 31 MCAT (from UT Austin)--stats that are not great, but not shabby either. Seeing as how these numbers are above their averages, this doesn't make sense. I'm from Texas, where there are 8 medical schools, so I suppose they might reject people who do not possess a high likelihood of going there. Still, it has been my only rejection and made me feel quite crappy....
