Does applying to medical schools while enrolled in SMP really make a difference to my application (I will be a reapplicant), since I would be submitting the AMCAS application before the program begins? Since med schools begin evaluating applicants in the summer and can start offering acceptances by mid-October, wouldn't updates later in the cycle become a minor consideration, if one at all, and delay my application anyway? I ask because SMP doesn't claim a formal linkage program with any med school, so I'm having a hard time weighing the advantages of the program.

I ask the same thing myself 😕

I emailed the Dr. Myers, the program director, and he said that the program will send two updates to the schools your applying to before December. I'm not sure of the dates b/c he didn't give them.
While I think that what your saying about October acceptances is true, many(most?) schools consider applicants into the spring. So if an Adcom is reviewing your file and they've got a letter from Georgetown saying you honored Histology and High Passed Embrology or something similar it might be that extra push that you need.
My two cents. Good luck!

Many of my classmates who didnt get any allopathic interviews last year got multiple interviews this year with the only change being that they were in the SMP program. It is definitely a big boost for certain applicant types. As long as you do well, it'll help anyone, some more than others depending on your background and gpa/mcat combo. pm if if you have questions.
