I am currently choosing between two post baccs with less than 24 hours left to make my decision :/
I got into both Georgetown's SMP as well as Georgetown's regular MS in physiology program. I have a 3.1 sGPA and a 3.52 cGPA.
SMP: SUPER competitive. The special masters program is geared towards students with low GPAs (below 3.5) and is one of if not the hardest SMP/academic enhancement program—you take classes with the first-year medical school students and only those who score within the top 15% of the class get an A. You are competing against 180-200 other students. The top 10% or so get offers into Medical School, and 85% of the students get into a medical school either the year they are in the program or after. Average GPA that you get in the program is a 3.3
Regular: On their website, it states that it is for students who are already competitive applicants with good GPAs. The curriculum is still rigorous but a bit easier and it is a cohort of 30 students. It is a year just like the SMP and the cost of attendance is (almost) the same.
Just spoke to the director of the "regular" program (also assistant for the SMP) who said I may be a better fit for the regular program because on average the regular program has a better overall GPA and if I don't do well in the SMP it may look bad since I started out with a high cGPA. She also told me that the "regular" program has around the same percent (85%) of students matriculate into med schools. However, I spoke to an assistant from the SMP who told me that because of my second major, my cGPA was inflated and my science GPA is low so getting a 3.3-3.4 would be okay. Both programs have similar faculty. I was initially going to go with the SMP but after hearing from the director I don't know which to choose.
