Oh, the beauty of a one-year program.
konichiwa, bitches.

Though it seems most of you are in or were in the Georgetown SMP program, why do you feel Drexel's IMS Program is so far below the SMP? They also do 6 actual medical schools classes with M1 students and have a 1 year program.

Are you all projecting that Georgetown is the best, or do you have experience saying that the rest are lesser programs? And why would BU be above Drexel if BU is 2 years and only 2 medical school classes?

Is there anyone that is in or completed the Drexel IMS Program that can weigh in about their experiecne there?

I'm trying to decide between SMP and Drexel for next year, any info you have is always appreciated.

Reasons why Georgetown is considered the best:
-They were the first SMP
-You get an MS in one year (Drexel only gives you a certificate for one year, you need two for an MS)
-SMPers get in to medical schools across the US with a signifigant amount of us going to Drexel, Georgetown, NMYC, VA Public Schools, and GW, as opposed to being tied to one school (like a lot of post baccs and quite a few SMPs too)

1. I prefer to take classes in an actual class room with the rest of the medical students and be able to ask the professor questions if I want to. I like interacting with the medical students. I prefer not to watch a video feed of the classes.

2. Former Georgetown SMPers who are now Drexel medical students tell me that the Georgetown program is much better.

3. Both BU and Georgetown are highly regarded by other admissions directors across the country, relative to the Drexel program. If you don't care which medical school you go to, this doesn't matter.

Im a Drexel IMS student and agree with most of these statements. I would like a master's in one year as opposed to two. Although having experienced the feed part of the lectures I think this is a plus to the Drexel program. For those with children not coming to class is a godsend especially if you can watch them from home. Now here is the kicker. Someday's when I go watch the feed (you can see the Drexel Med school class before class) there are only 8-20 students at the actual lecture at Queen Lane Campus. This means that on certain days only 8-20 students show up for the actual medical school lecture. Most of the Drexel medical students watch the lecture from the comforts of their own home. Don't ask me how many debates this has started on the future of medical school clases. Recently a lecturer did not show up so they played last years lecture. This was to all of us, medical and IMS students. Oh and for what its worth they do not (currently) have a classroom large enough to seat all of the medical students so if everyone did show up they would have to telecast it in the other room. Luckily there are different tracks like PIL, PBL, etc.., to minmize classroom attendance. Apparently they are doing some remodeling to change this. Anyway Drexel is a good program for those that are borderline. Good Luck.
