Georgetown vs. George Washington

Any opinions? Interviewed at both, liked GWU, and was suprised with how much I liked GT since I had heard negative things after they lost their cath lab. I've also heard of two interns leaving GWU after their first year. I'm thinking hem/onc, and I like the Lombardi Cancer Center at GT. But GWU also has a public health elective, and it seems like they get a more diverse patient population. And I didn't seem to like GT's 2-attending system for rounds. I wanna live in DC, and I'm stuck with these 2 programs. What do you think?

George Washington is probably the stronger program. GW has a slightly higher pass rate on the ABIM Exam. GT recently lost access to one of their clinical sights (Fairfax Hospital), which GW picked up. As you mentioned, GT has no cath or CT surg services. Also, the GI training program has some limitations. So if you're thinking Cards or GI, you may be at a disadvantage at Georgetown.

I was actually also pretty surprised by how much I ended up liking Georgetown compared to what I was expecting- even better than George Washington

My overall impression was that for a long time they were riding on their name and it took a while for their financial/academic problems to get addressed- and now that theyve righted the ship so to speak theres a similar lag for them coming back to prominence- especially in the academic rep arena, but all indications seemed that they are heading in that direction

I was wondering if anybody who's interviewed there over the last 2-3 academic cycles has any opinions on GT?

I too would like to be in the DC area for personal reasons(and hope that didnt cloud my impression) and was wondering if and how much of a compromise it would be if I chose Georgetown over some Midwest programs such as Northwestern, UChicago, Case Western, UPitt

Btw- I'm also planning on pursuing Hem/Onc and assume the presence of a NCI Cancer Center is reason enough to believe the compromise won't be that great..

Georgetown gave out a fellowship match list for the last few years at their interview, which was decent in ID and not too popular for GI (the two I'm interested in). George Washington didn't really give out very helpful info in terms of numbers, etc. Which should I rank higher for GI or ID? Thanks!
