Georgetown vs. Tulane

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It depends on how good the crayfish is post-katrina.

The atmosphere at Tulane was amazing and everyone is very very happy and laid back there.

It wasn't the right fit for me, but its an awesome place.

Georgetown, but that is because I 😍 DC. I have never been to NOLA... nor do I have any desire to...no offense😳

I was wondering which you would choose and why? I will be considered OOS for both. Thank you for your time.

You have to give us a little more info to work with.

What kind of setting would you like to be in?
Have you ever visited New Orleans or DC?
Where would you like to eventually settle down?
What kind of medical school experience do you want?

I can answer any questions you have about Georgetown. But I know absolutely nothing about Tulane, so I really can't push for Georgetown over it until I get some more info (after which I will gladly push for you to come to Georgetown 😉).

The Georgetown area is a great place to live and work. The facilities at Georgetown are not super, but they are not terrible, either. Make sure you pack some Lacoste or Ralph Lauren polos, boat shoes, and khakis.

Not true at all. You are thinking of the undergrad community. The Medical School class prefers sweats, jeans, t-shirts, and scrubs. No overtly preppy atmosphere here.

👍👍 Yeah I agree - my friends who interviewed there liked it a whole lot. It sounds like a very different atmosphere of the hustle and bustle of Georgetown/DC. Many of my friends withdrew from Georgetown post-interview after seeing the poor facilities. I couldn't believe their accounts when they got back 🙁

I'm REALLY not a big fan of these threads... OP you need to give some more information other than "OOS for both," or else it's just a preference war...

G'town>>tulane

yeah, dude, georgetown is a way better med school than tulane. since they are both private schools, i doubt there is a big difference in their tuitions, although I don't know the exact #s for sure.

if you're caring about the area more than the caliber of the school, then that's only something you can answer yourself.

Tuition at Tulane: $45,080

Tuition at G'town: $44,444

just recently discovered the world of SDN... first time post! but i just had to chime in... i interviewed at both schools as well. i would put them pretty much on par with each other in terms of "caliber". both offer a good education, and i dont think the name of one school in itself will offer you opportunities the other couldn't. i know alumni from both schools and have friends currently at both and find they attract a similar type of laid back student, maybe more so at tulane. you really have to ask yourself where you think youll be happiest? let go of all the complicated agonizing of prestige, price, pass/fail, match lists, etc. youll work hard to forge your own path to become the best doctor you can, your school cant do that for you. go with your gut! you interviewed at both! if you go to Tulane, will you always be wondering what if you went to Georgetown? or vice versa? whichever school you find yourself answering that question to as No, is probably the one you actually want to go to. Good luck!!
