I have already been accepted to Wake Forest and seeing that I am a NC resident it is very likely that I will be attending Wake Forest. Also, next week I have an interview at Georgetown which I don't know whether to attend or not now and spend another $150 on hotel. How would you rank both schools and what have you heard about them? If you have been to both places which one would you say has better facilities?

I've heard from this board G'town (where my father figure went) is going down hill...Plus G'town isn't very "southern".

If you're an Carolina resident...Wake all the way baby.

Wake's facilities are superior to georgetowns. I loved the anatomy lab there. DC is expensive to live, and GU isnt a superior school to Wake. In fact, I think wake might be a better school, and at least wake isnt in financial trouble. Save your money!

If I were you, I would go to the Georgetown interview. See first hand which place you like better and decide based on your own experiences. From what I've read on this board, alot of the negative comments about Georgetown are from those you got rejected by Georgetown. Since you have been given the opportunity to interview there, I would spend the $150 for a hotel room and go. Congratulations and good luck. 🙂

I'd skip Georgetown too.

Honestly, what's another $150 in this process? We've already spent so much fricken money (and are going to spend a whole lot more the next few years), so why not go out and see what you might be missing out on? I think it really comes down to what YOU like, as in the environment, culture, people, facilities. That is not to say that Wake isn't a great school -- it's an awesome school! But just don't regret it later, even if it means going out to G-town only to completely verify your Wake decision. 😉

wow, whats another 150 bucks? you guys have alot of money to throw around dont you.

I didn't apply to Georgetown, so I can't comment on their facilities or program, however there is a huge difference between DC and Winston-Salem. Would you like to live in a big city for med school, or are you content with a smaller city? There would be a big difference in cost of living too. DC is a very expensive city to live in. For me the affordability of W-S was very, very appealing.

I went to Wake Forest undergrad. All I can say is that W-S is cheap BUT if you want nice pubs, restaurants, and city life in general ... there is none of that here. They are trying restoration down town and building a biotech center but it is going to take a while to make the downtown look respectable since much of it is empty textile and tobacco factories. There are nice parts though but there is a total of 4 places people go out to at night and they arent very nice to say the least. But Wake med is a beautiful school in itself with great facilities.

If you look at this from a financial point of view, G'town is the most expensive school in the nation.

If you look at this from a city view, G'town is in a big city whereas Wake is more southern.

If you look at it from a research standpoint, I believe Wake is actually ranked higher than G'town.

So it really comes down to atmosphere

Actually, it's not. There are many other private schools which have higher tuition, including schools located in cities with similar living expenses.

Thank you for the thoughtful responses.

Right now it seems like that I am inclined to not visit either Gerogetown or George Washington. I love the South, although I was born outside the US, and Wake Forest also provides NC reisdents with scholarships. Also, Wake is ranked higher than Georgetown by US News, not that it matters any.

You're welcome!

I didn't know that Wake was ranked higher than Georgetown! Good to know even though it doesn't matter like you said. So long as you have a strong inclination towards one school, go with it! 🙂

If you don't mind me asking, when were you complete at George Washington? I haven't heard a thing from them... they seem to be so slow (or that's what I've been telling myself...)

That is what I was told by someone. My bad if it isn't true, but a lot of people have told me that, so I presumed that it was true.
