Georgetown?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When I read the title of your post I thought you were asking what about happened to Georgetown's men's basketball team............😎

Due to a decline nationally of dental school applicants from the late 1970s to 1987, Georgetown decided to do away with the program completely by 1990. This was probably their last graduating class. What's that, about 18 years now?

There were quite a few fine dental schools which closed at that time including: Northwestern, Emory, Washington U., Fairleigh Dickinson, Oral Roberts U. and Loyola. Can't think of any others.

That is craziness!!

THIS IS SPARTAAAA!

I have this uneasy feeling that next time there is downturn in dentistry that some of the schools will close. The current increase in applicants and appreciation of dentistry may not be here to stay. Another thing is the ever increasing cost of dental education may turn people away from dentistry. This and other potential factors may conspire to cause another down turn.

SLU was also shut down a while ago. Boooo!!! 😡 If they only knew how competitive dentistry is now. 🙁

man i had a davidson joke LINED UP, but you guys are just too quick! lol..

that's interesting though, are there other large names that have shut down their dental programs in the past?
