Hey all, I was just curious as to how many GA people are out there and of those, who are applying to the "M's" as I affectionately refer to Morehouse, Mercer, MCG or eMory. I'm a recent UGA Grad taking a Gap Year applying for 2007.

I'm applying to all the "M's" as you so nicely put it. 😀

i'm Ming. just got the morehouse application though.

Another applicant buried in the M quadrangle. 😎

I've applied to all of the M's except Mercer. I just got an app complete e-mail from Morehouse and an interview invite from MCG for Tuesday the 31st. Good luck everyone.

HardRoc, when were you complete at MCG and Morehouse?

Just a question for all you:

If you have complete files at MCG, Mercer and/or Morehouse:
1. How long did it take for you to get an interview invite?
2. How long should you wait for an invite?

I applied to MCG, Morehouse, and Emory (Not Mercer b/c I'm from Macon and I don't wanna go back)

App was complete at Morehouse mid Aug and. I interviewed 10/6

At MCG, I was complete mid Aug and interviewed last week (10/17).

For Emory, I'm still waiting. I was complete there mid Sep. and I haven't heard anything else.

Ga. girl with a hollywood state of mind....applied to the M's and hoping they show crazy love!🙂

yeah georgia...quick question: what kinds of marks make a GA resident competitive at places like MCG and emory? good luck to all.

I'm not really sure but I'm sure you can check MSAR and it could give you a general idea of the average stats of matriculants. You can also check out MDapplicants.com and enter the school which you are interested in and see profiles of students who matriculated into individual schools. Good Luck:luck:

Good luck to all of you applying to the "Ms" as you put it. I am a GA resident and was accepted ED to Mercer for 2007. This was my third year and I can tell you to prepare for the crap shoot, especially with Mercer. There is absolutely no pinning them down on what they look for in an applicant. They regularly accept low 20 MCATs and turn down mid-30 MCATs.

I applied to Mercer and MCG only my first app cycle. I was interviewed at Mercer and not at MCG. At that time, my stats were 3.57, 24N. The next year, I applied to MCG, Mercer, and Morehouse. I was interviewed and wait-listed at all three. My stats were 3.57 and 27P. Finally, this year I was accepted. So, it's a tough road, but well worth it.

Good luck!

November 1 - Interview Invite from Mercer , Interview Dec. 12
November 6 - Interview Invite from Morehouse , Interview Dec. 8

2Ms down, 1 more to go! Come on MCG, where you at?

Good luck to everyone 🙂

How long did it take to here back from MCG after completing your application?
I called MCG several times and they say that my file is completed but I havn't received anything such as an confirmation email. As for Mercer I was lucky and was granted an interview for December the very next day my file was completed. I'm thinking MCG is showing no love...
As far as Morehouse I havn't heard from them either...

Best wishes to you all...

My experience with MCG has been the same. I was complete at least by October 12 and I called their admissions office and emailed them. I was confirmed by email and by phone as having a complete file. So all I can do now is wait. Just know you're not alone , MCG seems frugal with their "love."

I got an interview 2 days after my August MCAT scores came in. The rest of my application was complete in August.
I am a re-applicant and was waitlisted last year- so that may have helped expedite my initital review...?

I applied to Mercer, MCG, and Emory, and am excited about visiting all of them, but to this point the only one I have interviewed at is MCG, and I absolutely loved it. I go to Mercer soon, and haven't heard anything from emory yet, but not really that surprising. To those of you that have interviewed at multiple Georgia schools which one did you like the most?

Guzzy when were you complete at Mercer?

Argh! Didn't mean to ignore you; I just haven't revisited this thread in a while. I received a file complete email from Mercer Sept 5 and they called me Oct 26 to show up for an interview Dec 6. I don't know...but me retaking the MCAT in Aug might have contributed to the delay in receiving an interview invitation.

Also, I believe I was complete at Morehouse as of Aug 30. But they didn't send me a file complete email until Oct 26 - almost 2 months and several phone calls later. And they finally invited me for interview on 11/06 for 12/01.

Yeah, I'm not used to being ignored but I forgive you this time🙂 Good Luck with all your interviews, I definetly hope you get in somewhere:luck:

OK, pretty princess...now that I know I'm forgiven, I can go rock my interviews! 😀

Any of you folks gone to Gordon in Barnes. ?

What impressed you about MCG? What was your take on it?

All of the people were just really nice there, and there program is constantly improving. Plus, anybody interested in going into anything in the field of pediatrics would absolutely love the childrens' hospital they have at MCG. I also liked the city of Augusta because it has stuff to do, but is not a huge city like ATL. Overall MCG just seemed like a very good learning environment with nice students and staff. Hope you like MCG as much as I did, and I hope that I like Emory as much as you did. Good luck!

i heard that the MCG admissions committee meets today for the first time to discuss regular decision applicants... good luck to all those who interviewed (including me..10/17!)

That includes me as well. Didn't they say it would be about a week after the committee meets that we would find out something? I can't wait because they are certainly one of my top choices!!

I'm in that same boat as well. Interviewed on 10/17 I think. It was the 2nd day of interviews. It's a really nice place to be with a lot of history to boot! But, for us, I hear that they have a very slow rolling admissions and to not be suprised if we don't hear anything until March.

That's true, they do supposedly have a very slow rolling admissions process so we might not hear anything for quite a while. But, you never know, maybe us SDNers will be some of the first ones to get accepted and will not have to stress about it for the entire year. Let's keep our fingers crossed and wish for the best!

Still hoping to hear something from MCG sometime this week. Has anyone else heard anything yet?

The admissions office told me that after the committee makes a decision it has to get approved by the dean (which takes up to a week) and then decisions are mailed out up to a week later. This means that IF the committee made a decision on our apps last Thursday, a letter could be mailed anytime between now and 11/23...

good luck! i also am hoping for the best.

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping it would be this week, but I guess I can wait one more week if need be.

Make my life better MCG. Call me.

Make my life better MCG. Write me. Medium doesn't matter to me.

I would love to not have to care about final projects and exams, for once before I graduate. But I'll even take an acceptance after I graduate. :luck:

hey fellow georgians,

anyone else interview for morehouse about a month ago and waiting for a letter? i remember dr. roaf saying that they would send out mail on nov. 1st.

anyone know if they're running behind? or what their status is?

Hey john,

I interviewed in September at Morehouse and I remember Dr. Roaf saying November. I asked when in November, but he just said November.

I have been running to the mailbox since the beginning of November.

Good luck

Hey all:

I applied to Mercer, Morehouse and MCG.

Morehouse interview: September 22
Mercer interview: November 14
MCG interview: November 16

I had my Mercer yesterday, and have my MCG tomorrow. I am totally exhausted because I know I am going to work today and driving down to MCG this evening.

I didn't apply to Emory, because I know too much about it and am an alum of one of the schools.

I am nervous about the MCG interview. Anyone who already interview have any pointers?

I only applied to 1/2 of the Ms.... I'm not really interested in rural medicine -X out Mercer... and I don't really feel like I'd fit in at Morehouse...

Well that's not the only reason I didn't apply to Morehouse. I think it's absurd that there are educational institutions specifically for an ethnic group, URM or not.

Desout:

Mercer is not only for rural medicine, it is also for medically-underserved areas of Georgia. Only 13 counties in Georgia are not considered underserved, so that leaves an entire state (146 counties). So, if you desired to stay in Georgia Mecer would not be an unreasonable choice.

As for Morehouse, they are a historically black institution which was necessary and precedented when they began offering medical school classes in the 70's. They are not for black people or any particular ethnic group, however, a lot of people who are not a part of that ethnic group have this misconception, so Morehouse will probably remain that way. If the majority of applicants to Morehouse are black, then chances are that the majority of applicants who matriculate will be black. This is also the case for med schools that have little to no representation of URM's.

Their freshman class has a large percentage of whites, asians, and hispanics. The one common denominator is that they are interested in the medically-underserved communities. You don't even have to be interested in staying in Georgia.

After reading your post, I felt compelled to mention this. Now if you still don't think you would fit into the mission then that is fine, but i didn't want you to go around thinking that these schools are just for URM's or rural medicine hopefuls.

Good luck with your application! 😉

Besides, I know someone who interviewed there with an MCAT 3 points lower than mine, and he was told he was "too ambitious" for their school.

I'm sure that it was b/c of their high MCAT score too. Some people just don't fit the mold of what they are looking for. My bet is that they have people get in with 35ish MCAT scores as well as 24s.

When are you going to make a MDapplicant profile and show us those stellar stats that you keep referring to?

I interviewed there today. Dr. Thompson said that we will hear between next week and April. That sure does narrow things down.

Thanks Dr. Thompson

I like MCG and everything...in fact, it's my top choice school but I strongly DETEST the extremely slow speed of their admissions. They probably have one of the slowest admissions processes in the entire nation. It's not even cute. It looks to me like their long delays might be an attempt at masking their own inefficiency. :meanie:

Well, the way they explain it, they don't over-accept candidates. This year they have 190 spots to fill, and they will only fill 190 and no more. They do have people set on the alternate list.

After May 15th then they start pulling from the alternate list. Dr. Thompson did acknowledge that the process is slow, but I certainly don't think they are inefficient. However, I would rather them tell us that we will hear in 6 weeks and then give an acceptance, rejection or alternate list option instead of saying APRIL.

Maybe they should change their strategy

I Couldn't agree more. It would be nice if we just got some word, any word really, in regards to our status within a set period of time. Like you said, possibly at 6 weeks or something like that. However, I'm still doing my best to wait patiently.
