Mount Sinai medical school is trying to cheat many of their applicants. Apparently they wrote unclear directions. After students submitted their secondary application, an email confirmation was sent that the PAYMENT was received. Actually, we were supposed to go BACK to the website and RESUBMIT the actual secondary application.

Although Sinai was aware of this, they did not send an email to applicants informing them of the problem. A similar problem happened at COlumbia University, however they sent emails to all applicants and extended the deadline!!! Sinai did neither of the two. As a result, HUNDREDS assumed that their application was received when in fact only the 105 DOLLARS was received. The school knowingly kept the money but did not inform students.

If you think you might be one of these people, CALL THE SCHOOL!!!!! They are now willing to refund people's money.

When exactly did this happen? When I applied I didn't have any problem.

I checked the emails from Mount Sinai. The email says it is a receipt for the amount you paid to fill out the secondary. And then it says follow (and they provide a link) to continue. Did you not follow the link? I did and then I also received an email saying my secondary was received. However, what I never received from Mount Sinai was a rejection letter or any other communication. Did anyone else never get a response?

Yeah I never got a rejection or anything after I gave them my money.

then perhaps you two aren't rejected! 👍

after sorting through my mail, i saw that i had not one, not two, but THREE confirmations from mt. sinai regarding my supplemental. i haven't heard a wink from them since then, except two or three emails suggesting that I fill out their MSTP app. 🙄

lol, guess i'm also not rejected from mt. sinai.

Sinai waits until the very end of the app cycle (right around now, or even later) to send out blanket rejection letters.

Yeah I just got my rejection today. The rest are probably in the mail.

does this work? how does this work? do you ask for a refund? or do you ask if your app was ever complete?

i just got my rejection letter today, so, i wouldn't mind salvaging something from this

the email i got said:
"Your supplemental application was completed on 09/03/2004. We thank
you for applying to Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
We have atached a pdf of your application for you to print for your
records.

Please make sure your letters of recommendation are mailed to our
office as soon as possible, as your application package is not complete
until these are received."

i got my rejection a couple of weeks ago. does this mean i don't get my $105 back?

Here is what I think happened to the people who are complaining: They did not get the above email, which means your application was complete and submitted properly, they got this email, which was a screen shot from the MSSM website: (entitled MSSM Application Fee Receipt)

"This email is a receipt for the fee you paid to fill out a supplemental application for admission to Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Follow http://fusion.mssm.edu/admissions/submit/index.cfm?content=step4&complete=true">this link to continue, if your browser does not forward you on automatically.

And then there's some personal info"

I'm guessing these people
(a) Had a browser that did not automatically forward them to the final step
and (b) Did not read the email receipt

If you got the subsequent email, entitled "MSSM Supplemental Application Confirmation for [AAMC ID#]" which is reproduced above by myodana, then you followed the link correctly, your application was submitted, and you don't get a refund. If you didn't get this email, it is possible that you did not fully submit the application, and you may have a fighting chance at getting a refund. Although, honestly, this wasn't difficult. I see no excuse for not following the link and/or not reading the email you received. But, even if you didn't do that, you're supposed to follow up with each school to ensure that they received your secondary and LOR and are officially "complete."

And, for the record, I was rejected with no interview too, so I'm just as annoyed as anyone about the $105. But seriously. We're med school applicants, not little children.

They were really disorganized last year too, they sent like half of us emails saying that we hadn't completed secondaries long after we had. And this waiting until May to reject people business is just dumb...they are by far the latest pre-interview rejection I've ever heard of. Good luck to those applying this year, but be prepared to have to spend some time on the phone with them sorting through their random technical difficulties.

hmm, I got the email saying that my $105 fee was received and to follow the link. I definitely do remember going to the link and submitting the app; however, I never received an email confirmation after that saying that my application was completed. Interesting? what do you guys think? 😕

i had a similar thing happen to me w/ mt. sinai. finished my app w/i a week after they sent the secondary link. it wouldn't submit from my computer so i called and a woman at the admissions office submitted it for me. I got the receipt via email, saw the $105 charge, but when i clicked on the link i got another error. i didn't think anything of it until i called in november and they said they never even got my application! i told them i was charged and they proceeded to give me attitude. it finally went through, but i thought it was some serious bs. for it to have initially worked i think you basically had to shut off all security features in internet explorer.

for everyone else, i would def. call and inquire. don't let them steal your money.

I'm so frustrated by MSSM (and most schools) by now that I don't think I could muster the energy and paperwork it would take to get a refund. But I have no doubt that what the OP said happened, due to a browser snafu or whatever. I've just had so many other mishaps throughout this whole process, I'm sure this is yet another ...

Wasn't MSSM the school that warned students against accidentally submitting their app twice? I seem to remember a thread a while ago where people posted about how we should be careful not to submit it twice, because we wouldn't get a refund of the second fee payment. Anyone remember this?

Yeah MSSM had a ton of weird computer problems. Like e-mailing everyone's e-mail addresses out to everyone.
