Since now I have been rejected from a school already, which hasn't withdraw money from a cheque that I wrote them as a supplemental fee. Should I put a stop payment on that cheque now to save some money?🙂 I think i will be charged for puting a stop payment. but still....and I won't be applying to that school in future for sure...I just checked, but they havnt withdrawn the money yet?
So should I do it?

Curious, why are you asking then? There has to be some dubiousness, or else this post doesn't make sense.

what do u mean? dubiousness on what?

Sorry. To rephrase: what are you afraid of happening? There had to be something to worry about or else you'd just act in your own interest (like canceling the check.) It seems you have a pretty good grasp of the repercussions, so why ask?

You wrote a check for a non-refundable supplemental fee. The supplemental fee was part of your application to the school. The school held up their end of the bargain.. they considered your application. So is it "right" (or "okay" or "not wrong") to put a stop payment on that check? No.

Will something bad happen if you do? Who knows. I believe if the school tries to cash the check and it has been stopped, they will be charged a fee by their bank. Is that really fair? They would also have every right to sue you for writing a check in bad faith and ask for damages (in CA, up to three times the amount of the check). Will they bother, who knows..

This idea was discussed in the past about admission deposits instead of supplemental fees, but I believe the idea is the same.
