I'm posting this here b/c the financial aid forum doesn't get movement. Does anyone know how I can get a credit report SOON? ....like an instant one online? (also one that won't lower my credit rating) I tried calling my CC company, but they said it will take 7-10 business days to mail it out. That is too much time, condering I have to apply for loans for classes beginning in a month. 🙁

If I'm not mistaken, most (if not all) of the credit reporting agencies can do it online for about $10. And why would it lower your rating if you check it?- It's your right to know.

Birdie has a point...credit scores can be lowered if one's credit report is accessed mulitple times, especially in a short duration. It's an indication that one might be applying for a number of loans, etc.
If it's just you accessing it one time it's not going to make a big difference, but if a number of people (creditors) have been checking on you; well, there could be a problem.

The 3 major credit reporting agencies are trans union, experian and equifax. They all have websites and all cost about $10. They also offer to give you all three reports for around $30. You can get the report immediately online, but it is likely that you will end up having to call in order to "verify your identity". I don't think checking your own credit report changes your credit score. That would make no sense. Anyway, if it did, I'm sure there would be no way around it.

Look around at the different companies. I know for Trans Union, depending on the state you live in your first report can be free. I don't know if the others companies have similar deals with other states. I don't really understand it, but I guess I don't really need to in order to save money in this case 😀

Privacy guard.... $1.00(3 month trial) and you can cancel. You get full reports from all three(quifax, experian and trans union). I think they are the cheapest and the best.

Privacyguard is what I used. It's only a $1.00 for the trial, they pull "soft" inquiries on all your credit reports, so there will be no decrease in score.

what do you mean?

The credit report are actual reports from all three. Plus, your credit score is the actual score from the reporting agency. Plus, the score changes on a monthly basis.

Have you used the "what if stimulator" for an extra $3. it tells you what will happen if you pay it off(+score), inquiries(-score) and things like.

The score from privacyguard is not very accurate, it's a rough guidelines, it can be anywhere from 50 +/-. It's what the experts call "FAKO" score (read the fine print below the score, that's basically what its saying) and it's only a simulation off your Equifax report. The only way to get an accurate score is myfico.com , but usually not necessary unless your looking at a mortgage and your borderline or something. Privacyguard does show all three reporting agencies, that's why I like it, they're all side by side so you can compare. That's important because sometimes there will be inaccurate information on TransUnion, but not on Equifax (or vice versa) and if you only pulled one credit bureau, you may think you have perfect credit, and really don't. I've never used the simulator, because the score is just an estimation anyway.

Now, you are pissing me off. Because i have been a member with them for the past year and pay $7/month. Always, thought everything in there was 100% correct.

Why????
When you sign, you get everything on your credit report from ALL three companies. I think that we agree on that.

However, you only get one credit score(equifax) and the other two you have to pay an extra $10. I did to see if they were any differences in the credit score from the other two. In fact, they were. All three credit scores are slightly different from each other. Which means those are the actual score from the reporting agency.

why do you need to check your credit reports so often?

Post this question: "I'm using privacyguard, how accurate is the score?"

But, I like privacygurad, I've used them for 6 months now. They allow me to pull unlimited reports from all 3 credit bureaus for a fixed fee. I just don't rely to much on the FAKO score. That's all. (By the way, wasn't trying to piss you off!)

ok.....i am just pissed off at them. Anyway, they have my credit score rating as "good". I don't if i should believe that now.

identity theft, future life(car, buying a house and so on). So, the sooner you start establishing a good credit history, the better for you later on in life.
