so .. im a freshman right now and its summer and i have NOTHING to do until summer school starts and i want to shadow/work/volunteer ANTYHING at a dental office.. but how do i get the work? Do i just randomly walk into a random dental office and be like.. "I NEED A JOB HIRE ME?" 🙁 helpp me 🙂

I'd suggest putting together a nice resume and cover letter and sending it out to all the dental clinics in your area. It worked well for me in regards to getting observation time with several clinics (one of which might be leading to an one-day-a-week job in the not too distant future).

If you can't get into a paid job with a dentist I would suggest looking into a research assistant spot at your school. I started as a research assistant this summer and very likely by this fall I will be running my own project if things continue as they have been going. It's a great learning experience and it looks nice on a resume later on. 🙂 Hope this helps.

Well, I wouldn't randomly walk around aimlessly like a lost puppy begging for a job. First look in the yellow pages or on the web for good clinics in your area. Then, write out your resume and a nice cover letter specific for each clinic, stating your career goals AND what you can offer the clinic in return.

That's basically what I did a few months ago and I landed a (low-paying) dental assistant position with a dentist who is being kind enough to teach me everything I need to know, i.e. digital x-rays, sterilization, chairside assisting, front office management, etc...

If you can get something like that, it's worth it. I'm learning more about the business than I ever dreamed.

If you can't find an assistant position right away, tell them you'd at least like to shadow. Once you are in an office and get to know the staff, if a position opens up, they'll be likely to offer it to you.

Good Luck :luck:

never "I need a job hire me?", always "This is what i can do for ya, hire me?".

I asked my dentist at university... it wasn't paid though.
