I am confused by this statement on AAMC:

"If you have submitted an AMCAS application to a criminal background check participating School, you may obtain a preliminary background report prior to the request and release of the background report to participating institutions by visiting Application Station and entering the code CERTAP2019."

Am I able to go to application station, enter the code, and buy a background check for myself if I am not applying this cycle? Will medical schools see it? I am applying to med school in two years but I want to make sure there are no surprises!

Thank you for the help!

You need an AMCAS ID and such to use this system - I'm not sure but it's probably only active for those who have submitted an app. I wouldn't worry about it - you should generally know what's on your record. And a lot can change in 2 years.

I do have an AAMC ID, as I have an AAMC account. It allows you to create an account without applying, is that what you are referring too?

I remember looking at this months ago and it was saying that you can order one for yourself if you want, but I did not do it then, I swear it changed now, maybe it has something to do with the timing of the application cycle?

I’m not sure about ordering it, but once you get accepted, you’re allowed to see the report before it is sent off to schools. Of course, this was only how things were done last year. Who knows if the policies have changed
