Hey everyone! I just matched into a surgery prelim year at Loyola-Chicago and into radiology at Missouri for 2015. I was at Wake Forest last year but withdrew in good standing because of a severe back injury on top of already bad back issues. I came home to Oklahoma and had surgery with infection and bleeding complications so recovery has been super slow and painful. Anyway, I give you that background to ask:

What do you guys think I should be doing to get myself back into residency shape by July 1?

Some academic background info on me: DO degree, 3.9 gpa, 254/99 Usmle 1, 247/88 Usmle 2, 707/97 Comlex 1....so in other words I know how to study, work hard, and I have some natural academic prowess. However, I am still really anxious about The possibility of not being ready mentally, physically or academically to go back by July. I definitely want to but I'm scared.

Any advice from you all would be very much appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I think the most preparation you will need is physical preparation. Surgery prelim will be very physically taxing. I'd try to get in the best shape of my life before prelim surgery year because when it starts, you will not have time to PT/OT. The surgery adage "eat when you can, sleep when you can..." wrecks your body.
