I'll be a U2 in about 1.5 months. I need braces to correct a cross bite and one of my canine teeth. I was going to get it two years ago and while talking to some people some told me it barely hurts and then some ******* came to me for no reason and scared the living **** out of me. Decided not to get it because of that and my now hatred for dentists since I wouldn't have needed them because of what my dentist did.

Anyways, now I finished my first year and every few days I feel irritation at my canine tooth which grew on top of one of my other teeth. Now I need to shift the tooth and correct the crossbite or something of that sort. My mouth is crowded.

Will it get too difficult to study and eat? That's what some people tell me..someone told my mom her son could only eat blended food for like 4 months afterwards and the pain went across his entire head and couldn't sleep or study:scared:..I'm not positive but I doubt my college dining service will do that for me. It's **** as it is.

Or should I just suck it up with my vampire looking tooth?

Is this a serious question? The obvious answer is that no one ever survives the pain associated with braces...people walk around completely non-functional for 2yrs.

Girls have babies in pharmacy school. Your braces should be a walk in the park.

X2!
Keep the snaggle tooth. Bad dentition will serve you well when dating.🙄

Ha, hilarious. I Lol'd but then came to find out there was even more to this post which involved a diss of some dude named "bottlecap90" (who must presumably be a snaggle tooth). NE ways girl, u gotta edit those post quick on here or else they'll quote ya and then it ain't goin away (had it happen to me too haha)

I edited quickly enough this time 😉

pain no problem

you'll just look like a 12 year old wearing a white coat on rounds

wtf is a U2...the band? people need to stop using institutions-specific acronyms/terms.

Undergrad year 2 maybe...i dunno...either way who gives a crap.

Really though..I have never heard of anyone not being able to perform daily tasks after getting braces.

U2 is based in the UK. Therefore, if thats the path you're headed, straight teeth are unnecessary.

Is it okay if I look 16? I have been told by strangers, friends, even patients I see at the pharmacy I volunteer at that I look like I am in high school! I like to take it as a compliment but looks can shape people's first impression on you.

I guess that makes me unique... or something. People will be shocked to find out I am a pharm student for sure... lol.

When you are a 23 year old pharmacist, patients will tell you they want to speak to the pharmacist, not you. Then they won't believe that you are the pharmacist, and insist on speaking to your 60 year old tech.

An elderly patient came in to the pharmacy and asked to speak to the pharmacist. My friend said she was the pharmacist. The patient paused and gave her a weird look. Then he asked to speak with the manager. My friend said she was also the manager. With a shocked face, the patient asked, "are u old enough to be manager?!"

My friend was a 24 year old 4'11" Asian pharmacist who looked like a little kid.

True story. lolz

There is always the invisalign option.

I think having a good smile is so important! It is one of the first things that people look at when they talk to you and if you have bad teeth, people can subconsciously form a bad image of you without meaning to. It doesn't hurt that much except for the first week when you wake up with metal in your mouth. Then every month, when they tighten it, it hurts for the first two days or so. Eating might strain the teeth, so I eat light on those days...I still eat solids though and use my other teeth that don't hurt to chew.

Make sure you get a good orthodontist and look him up and see if he or she is board certified. My first ortho was horrible and I stuck with him for 3.5 years and there were no improvements. Turns out he didn't even specialize in orthodontics...-.- Changed to another ortho and he finished in a year with amazing results. Do your research!

U2 is an Irish band.
Ireland is not part of the UK.
(And Scotland might not be for much longer either)

I thought about saying something but I somehow justified it by thinking about Northern Ireland. ::shrug:: my bad

U2 means undergrad 2 since I'm in a 6 year program.
U1, U2, P1, P2, P3, and then P4

The main problem is that I have some people say it's not a big deal and others go as far as to say I'll have trouble focusing on my classwork and exams because the pain will be all throughout my head for a long time..

I think you should just color it yellow and call it your "yellow fang."

I promise you it won't be that painful. The first time you have it on, it will be painful for the first few days, but not to the point where it's unbearable. A few days after that, it only hurts to chew. And then after that, it won't hurt at all! I have a low pain tolerance too. Lol.

Quit lying to them....the truth is that you will be on bed rest for 2 years. In fact it is common for people who have braces to need rehab after they get them off, due to not being able to function because of the severe pain. Don't worry though, the doc will give you a good script for some pain meds. Also I hope you like feeding tubes because you will need one for the first year, as the pain typically induces a lock jaw like state. It is a terrible price to pay for good looks, but you will happy once you get them off.

Seriously though, I think you should google "how much pain will braces cause me to be in?"...I have never heard of debilitating pain caused by bracers. I mean the only way it might affect your school is if you get them tightened the morning before a test. Then yes you may have some lingering pain, but it would be over by the next day or so. If you are in so much pain you cannot think, then I would think you should talk to the orthodontist, as there is something wrong that needs to be corrected.
