I'm curious to know if anyone has thought or gone this route. I know a few of my friends going into Med school who have commissioned with the Army so that after medical school they become a 4 year physician.

Any thoughts on this? I personally think it's a great opportunity to serve your country and take care of student debt. I would really appreciate anyone's thoughts or opinions; whether it's a good idea, what route you would take as PT (is it different than med student's), and just in general. It's definitely a huge commitment and requires a lot of thinking/planning before jumping in head first. I've been dangling with this idea for a few weeks now and would be curious to know what others think.

Thanks!

If you're thinking about this, you should really look into Baylor's program. It's a rigorous application process, but if you want to serve, it's the best and most direct route. Someone posted info on this a week or so back and it's very interesting!

I'm a new Navy PT that did not go to Baylor so I can really only answer from that perspective. Baylor is indeed on of the premier PT schools and should certainly be on your list of schools if your ultimate goal is becoming a military PT. As others will tell you, it is very competitive. You won't incur any debt which is a huge bonus and you'll get paid. Keep in mind that there are seats for Army (mostly), Air Force and Navy in each class. Each branch has very different environments and infrastructure.

At the moment the Navy has no scholarships or monetary incentives outside of Baylor to commission. They used to have what is called the Health Professions Loan Repayment Program but it is not offered at the moment which payed toward your school loans at a civilian program after commissioning. The other branches may or may not have programs to commission before graduating from PT school at this time.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
