I'm just curious to know if anyone has had dental work done through their school? Is there a discount? I would love to get implants, (two teeth not two breasts HAHA!) but they are kinda pricey from my understanding. Thx!

I was in yesterday at Temple and had impressions taken for bleaching trays, a cleaning and check up with x-rays. I will also be getting some pit and fissure work done. All of this cost me nothing but the confidence I gave my student doctor. It's a great opportunity to see how your particular faculty processes patients and gives you the heads up once you get into the clinic. You also learn what not to do, like jam the impression tray into your patients tori (ouch!!!!!!!). In terms of inplants and ortho I believe there is a small fee but it is very minimal. I believe my friend paid 950 for his complete ortho treatment. Of course every school will be different.

Don't go to the clinic. Students suck at it. We have only been in the game for a short time. You gotta be crazy! jk

A senior Grad Student under the supervision of a Specialist sucks? Get your facts together. What do you think they would let a Junior do implants? Wow.
My advise is to find out who in particular would be dealing with your case. If you don't like the situation leave.

You may consider waiting until you're a 3rd or 4th yr for implants just to get a better idea of what you really want, what that entails, and most importantly who you want to do it, especially if you are talking about anterior (front) implants.

There are some residents I would trust when it comes to implants. There are others I'd get an RPD before I let them do surgery on me.

guess u dont even know what its like in my own part

Notice the laughing face after my statement. It was a joke. Of course I would let students work on me, but I would only let the best student in the class that hasn't had 500 pulp exposures. 😉

At UNLV that means you let the guy who has only had 300 pulp exposures and not 500 work on you. Note laughing face after statement. Har Har

Don't go to the clinic...especially to a senior. The closer you get to graduation, the lower your ethics get. Save yourself some time and go to a private dentist. Most dentists, especially ones on faculty, will give you some sort of professional discount. But whatever you do, don't go to the clinic. You'll be sorry 2 years later when you get to clinic and see what was done.

wow guys, thanks for all the help....so i've learned:
~be picky if you have a student do it and save a bunch of money OR
~go to a professional and maybe save some money

the two teeth are the anteriors (i never got 24 or 25 so my ortho moved 23 and 25 into the middle so right now i have two bridges (from 23 to 22 and 25 to 27)) Hope that makes sense and i got my numbers right 😳

At my school there were reduced fees but still the surgery was $500 and the restoration was $700 (per tooth). I wouldn't have a problem getting it done at a dental school. But then again, I wear complete dentures...

i need to get a crown on #3, if i let an AEGD student do it will i be safe ?? 🙂

Correction, you share dentures (on a rotating basis) with TXOMFS's mother. 😀
Sometimes she wears the top while I wear the bottom.

LOL.

To answer the Op's question, I have a Class V and probably a few Class II's (getting bitewings done today to see) that I am going to have an upperclassman do for me. Honestly, if your school does a great job training you and you get plenty of time in the clinic, I don't see why you wouldn't trust a friend in an upperclass to do your work.
