...from those that have been in my situation at some point.

I applied for the 2005 cycle, yet rejected from every friggin school I applied to (my stats are listed in my sig). Some schools have informed me I should have applied early, yet I believe with my stats, I most likely would have seen the same results: REJECTION!

Currently, I am enrolled in two grad. level (500 level) science courses. As for the summer, I plan on possibly taking one course in June and one in July. However, I plan on retaking the DAT, and was hoping to devote 100% of my time and effort into successfully and significantly improving my score. Thus, I am not sure if I will in fact take courses during the summer. In the fall 2005, I plan on taking two, possibly three depending on finances, upper-level (400 and 500 level) science courses. Also, my local community college offers a dental lab program, so I hope to enroll in 12 credit hours of dental lab courses.

What recommendations would you guys suggest in my quest to get in during the 2006 cycle? More coursework to boost up the GPA? Would you not recommend me enrolling in the dental lab courses and rather focus on taking additional science lecture courses? Kiss major a$$ at certain schools? My personal statement is getting reworked, I have experience working in a dental setting, and my application will be completed on the very first day applicants are allowed to submit their application to AADSAS.

Also, I received a rejection letter from Colorado. Interestingly, they encouraged me to reapply for the 2006 cycle (I am in a WICHE state?). However, I called today to ask questions regarding the letter, and the lady, after pulling my file, began to 'inform' me the stats of the 2005 matriculating class, which were a lot higher than my pathetic stats. Then she proceeded to tell me the dean will call me later when he/she has time, which I doubt he/she will call me. WTF? Was this letter intended for someone else? Life sucks at this point...

If you guys can take the time to post any feedback and advice, I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys. 👍 👍

*I apologize for the long post. 😀

Your Dat scores seem pretty good. I would take more classes to boost my GPA. Take science classes that you know you can ace as well as some easy humanities classes to improve your overall grade. As stats go, it seems as though only your gpa is holding you back. Good luck

That really sucks ajy1013... but the fact that you are determined will pay off...

I would boost up the GPA... that is where your application is weak. Also, try and get a job as a dental assistant... there are threads on SDN on how easy it is if you look for a posting.

Your DATs arent bad... and if you have time, then you can re-take them, but that isnt the weak point in your application. Also, what happens if you do worse? or not as well... im not sure you should risk it, it may better to let it be.

Also make sure you apply to low gpa schools (nyu and temple). also, apply as early as possible... be the first/second person to deliver aadsas file, not 4000+ (although i was 7000, so i shouldnt talk 🙁 )

good luck :luck:

Like someone else pointed out, your DAT scores are good. And I agree you should concentrate boosting your GPA a bit, this will help you tremendously and I'm sure you know it, but apply just as soon as possible. Good luck!!

The main reason I am determined to retake the DATs is to possibly get into UOP. One of the admissions advisors informed to retake it, although another told me my DAT scores are competitive.

And thanks a bunch for your feedback guys. 👍 😀

You should calculate out how much your GPA would improve by if you say took x number of science classes and all got As... remember your GPA's hard to budge if you've gotten a lot of units. If that's the case in my opinion it would be better if you can get a dazzling DAT score... however you have to judge whether that's achievable or not for yourself.... amazing DAT scores will propel you past bad GPA... a good college buddy of mine, similar GPA to me, avged 27 on his DATs, easily got into several schools he applied to.

However if you haven't had that much science units, by all means take some science classes, pump that GPA up and show them how you've steadily improved recently and etc.

However do know for a fact MANY schools have an initial screener to weed people out based on GPA + DAT and won't even look at anything else for the weeded batch of applicants.

Good luck!
