We finished our last medical school rotation one week ago, and since then I have done absolutely NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

The only problem is that I can literally feel information oozing out of my brain. There may be nothing left by the time residency starts. Any one else feel the same way? What are you doing to prepare for June/July.

This is the last responsibility free period in your life. Find a beach, lie down and begin baking. You brain will rise to the occasion.

Thank you guys for easing my guilty feeling. I'm leaving for the Bahamas a few days after graduation, so BKN I will definitely take your advice.

Seriously, don't feel guilty. When you get into residency, the stuff becomes second nature (as it is supposed to), and any time off (as long as it's not too much) will not degrade your skills. You just get back to work, and you're on your game.

one WEEK ago? I finished my last rotation 1.5 MONTHS ago (vacation last month). This month we've had "preparing for internship" which is 3 lectures a day about common things that interns deal with. I haven't done a remotely-complete physical exam since my trauma rotation in october. luckily we have a month of orientation to start, so hopefully that'll help refresh my memory. otherwise, i'll have to show up to my first rotation in my short white coat and hope no one catches on... 😉

Because of Visa issues, I might have to take a whole YEAR off after medical school before starting residency! This has me really concerned at how much I'll still remember when I go back. Is that concern warranted?

I'm just starting another rotation (2wks). I swear, our school keeps us in the longest of all of them. Some of my friends have less than 2 wks between graduation and starting intern year. 🙁
That blows 👎

You'll probably never have to do a "complete" physical again, at least not like the ones you were taught in medical school.

Man my wife has to work late this week everyday except for wed when Im on call. I basically wont see her until Friday.. BLOWS!!!

I graduated in December (pushed it all up so I wouldn't have to take that fuc%ing Step II CS exam). Then went to Europe for the Spring. I am now almost done with my first year and still don't know anything. If you take any time off, you are screwed!!!

😀

It all comes back.

It's like my language ability. Living in Maryland, my Spanish has gone down the drain. But when needed (like a few weeks ago with the Puerto Rican Jerry Springer show in one of the Trauma bays), it was there, like a trusted friend 🙂.

I feel that when on an off-service month, my skills and knowledge go down hill as well. Like on medicine floors - by the end, I could correct Phosphorus like a pro, but asking me to reduce a shoulder took a good day in the ED to bring it back.

I'm sorry man. If it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine who had a baby and took some time off will be finishing school requirements until a day or two before residency starts. She had to get special permission. 👎
