hello friends,

I may have dug myself a hole here...
These are my classes this semester:

Descriptive linguistics
Organic 2 + Lab
Genetics + Lab
Molecular biology + Lab
Survey of American Lit
advanced spanish
Art appreciaiton
Scuba Diving

I am beginning to think that maybe i have enrolled in too much school...because of my enormous ego, i will not be dropping classes. I wonder though, do you guys feel that maybe i have taken too much? I think i'll be alright, but until may...pray for adonis.

Last semester i was enrolled in 20 hrs and ended the semester with a 3.813 gpa. So the odds are with me...i think.

PRAY FOR MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +pity+

dude thats like medical school course load. U can do it pretty asily and have free time if u do what most successful med students do.... home school!

later

Scuba diving? That's a class? Where? How do they grade you, perhaps those who dive and come up pass, and those who dive and don't come back up fail.😛

Well, you will have to work but since you did it last semester, you should be able to do it this semester. Are you taking the April MCAT?

Good luck to ya my friend!

HOLY GOOD GOD.......no i'm just kidding. looks like you got yourself a nice load there :scared:

at this rate you'll graduate early......is that a goal of yours? also, are you preppin' for the MCAT (ie trying to get certain classes out of the way)

if so, i say relieve yourself (haha, sounds funny) of such a burden and drop a class or two. I always like the idea of balancing science classes (esp intense the intense ones) with classes like your linguistics, art classes, etc......just be sure to also try an balance out reading classes vs. memorization classes etc.

Good luck! Also remember this dude, if you gota 3.83 taking 20 hours, you're a shoe-in for a 4.0 taking less! Personally, i like to stick around the golden number <<<<<<<12>>>>>>> :hardy:

actually, my grades always went down when I did low-credit semesters and went way up when I overburdened myself. But this? This isn't overburdening, this is suicide. Though if one or two of them is an easy class that you can skip and home school on, it will help a lot. I also don't know how much time those labs consume (since at my school labs were separate courses), so it's hard to say.

And personally, I'd drop at least American Lit, but that's because Lit isn't my strenght and I absolutely loved linguistics when I took it.

whatever you do, keep scuba diving! everybody needs at least one fun class, a class where you can go and relieve stress and not be worried about how well you're doing. i didn't have one last semester, and my grades went doowwwnnn.

Three of those classes are a joke--why are you taking them? Art appreciation, descriptive linguistics, and scuba diving? Give me a freakin break. Art appreciation is a blow off class that people take for an easy A; you're not going to learn much in that class. If you want to learn about art, take an art history class, not art appreciation. If you're gonna take 20+ hours, take some worthwhile classes, not filler.

Linguistics isn't always a blow-off class. But to tell the truth I have no idea what "descriptive linguistics" is since I've never heard of that field.

you would rather take 20 credits of all difficult science classes? do you enjoy pain?

fun classes definitely take the stress off the other ones. you have 3 sciences + labs, i dunno how they are at your school, but my labs were killer. i could never handle more than 2 a semester.
taking alot of credits does pay off in the end, assuming you do well. my last semester was filled with art, music, teaching, and the biology of sex! good times.

good luck

Dude, linguistics is a blow off class. That crap is easy, and it's a joke. None of my Classics profs has any respect for linguistics people. They always joke about how linguistics folks analyze foreign languages even though they can't speak these languages. (Classics profs, by the way, typically can speak 5-6 foreign languages, in addition to a thorough knowledge of both Latin and ancient Greek). Linguistics is a joke.

Maybe at your school. My linguistics professor spoke probably a dozen languages.

Not at my school, either. I took linguistics my second year, and it was one of the hardest classes that I ever took.

My prof was also a super genius. He spoke 12 languages and was an overall crazy smart guy.

perhaps those who dive and come up pass, and those who dive and don't come back up fail.😛

my sister took linguistics for her speech major, she said it's pretty hard. i've never taken it, but from what i hear, it;s interesting, but difficult. i guess it depends on what school you go to.

If you feel you can handle such a course load, then go for it. Many people told me I was committing academic suicide when they saw the courses I was takiing last semester:

Neurophysiology
Neuroanatomy
Neuromuscular Physical therapy
Neurolgical Conditions
Medical Anthropology
Organic Chem 2 + Lab

In addition, I was TAing an upper level Anatomy Course and I was working as a part time track team Physical therapist.

End of the semster GPA: 3.88/4.0

my gf took a linguistics class and though it's a fair amount of work, if you are into that sort of thing, it's generally not a difficult class, though interesting.

HAHAHAHAHA, i think squat-and-squeeze puts it so eloquently

The reason im taking the english classes is that my second major is in english, the first being in biology. Im currently in my second year and prolly wont take the mcats until april '05. Linguistics from what i can tell isn't going to be too hard, but harder than it has to be. The direction my prof is headed reminds me of a logic class. And yes art is typically a blow off class, but i have the most anal prof u could ask for, so i have to be there at every meeting and do all her busy work, as it counts for 40% of the final grade. I can knockout A's in molecular and organic 2 no problem...but my genetics prof goes through slides faster than you can read them, so i must learn to love the book.

Screw it, this semester will prolly make or break me...lol...we'll see what happens.
