Hello all, I wanted to receive some advise from the fellow SDNers
So here is my stat, sGPA 2.4, oGPA 2.5, DAT 19TS 20 AA
I am planning on taking DAT one more time, and while I applied to 8 master's program in Biomedical Sciences hoping to improve my chance at D school, I received one rejection from BU Master of Science in Oral Health Track.

Now How difficult is it to get into masters program? and which programs did people apply for?
one year biomedical programs? or regular masters?

I desperately seek your wisdom!

I applied to UMDNJ's 1 year Masters Program but am still waiting for a response from them, I do know that some people that applied early have been accepted already.

I applied there as well, Newark campus right?
I emailed them and told me my app is in process.

I would think you would get in with those DAT scores. Maybe try calling them, you will get more info that way and it will show your really interested. I only applied to a Biomedical Science program at Barry in Florida and got in as fast as they could process my ap. I had a sGPA 2.97 and oGPA 3.16 with a 20 DAT. With my stats I was able to get into their one year program but they also had 18 month and two year, all students take the same classes together, just varies how many classes they take per semester. I would recommend you apply there, I enjoyed my time and it worked out for me.

Your DAT should be enough to get into a Masters program, but many have a 3.0+ GPA to be competitive, recommend a 3.2-3.4. While I have no experience personally in applying to a Masters, I have heard good things about Barry in Florida, and if I'm not mistaken is an SMP. Worth looking into, especially if Hawkteeth mentioned he got accepted with similar GPA.

My recommendation: Apply to all the SMPs (there are about 6 or 7 if I recall correctly that is oral health specific). Off the top of my head, there is BU, Midwestern, Barry, UMDNJ, and I think Tufts has one too. If not, try doing a Masters in a core science like Cell Biology or similar.

I think the only requirement for UMDNJ is that you have a pulse. Get your app submitted early!

Good luck!:luck:

I would love to attend UMDNJ master's program if they let me. And I think I have a pulse so I should qualify.

Hawkteeth, would you say that you had a strong increasing trend within the last couple of years of your undergrad career? What other parts of your application do you think gave you that extra edge over applicants that had a higher GPA than you?

Yea I had an increasing trend, it wasn't that strong though, went from like a 2.75 to 3.5, per semester for bio. Then after my bio degree I also had 3.2 - 4.0 semesters in accounting degree courses. I think when I applied two years ago it wasn't as competitive, and they were practically letting in whoever applied. My 20 DAT certainly helped.

I got my second rejection from NYMC MBS program. sigh will someone plz take me in???

look into Mississippis Masters program of Med Sci. They align with Dental and Med students.
They are also very easy to get into

I think your DATs are fine. They're right around the averages for matriculated dental students. I think what's holding you back from even masters programs is your GPA, because even these MS programs are starting to get very competitive as people are realizing it's a good way to bump up their GPA. You should also try the following programs.

University of Cincinnati Special Masters Program (M.S. Physiology)
Georgetown SMP (M.S. Physiology)
Drexel University Interdepartmental Medical Sciences (IMS) - Masters in Medical Sciences (M.M.S.)
Eastern Virginia Medical School (M.S. Biomedical Sciences)
Rosalind Franklin University (M.S. in Biomedical Sciences)
Indiana University (M.S. Health Sciences)
Loyola University (M.A. Medical Sciences)
Tulane University (ACP Program (Pharmacology)
Virginia Commonwealth University
University of Pennsylvania Special Sciences Program

Thank you for your information. I did check out the school and i am considering applying. I have applied to others meanwhile, still waiting for decisions. At first I wanted to stay on the east coast but now I have opened my option to just about anywhere.

I know my gpa is killing all my opportunities. I was very motivated student leading up to college but 4 years in college sorta got the best of me. Since then, I worked full time doing research and took upper level bio courses at night. Its been rough for past 4 years but I've never been more motivated.

Hopefully I will hear the good news soon.

I am planning to take DAT one more time because since my gpa is way below the average, I feel like I need DAT above the average to have any type of shot at dental school.
