Getting into med school with misdemeanor

My son has a 3.9 GPA, is currently prepping for MCAT. His freshman year in college he got in a fight with a kid that had been taunting him for awhile..any way the kid pressed charges and the DA is not letting up. He may have a misdemeanor conviction. I understand that he can get it expunged, but it will still come up later. Does anyone have experience with this?

Not impossible for admission but will need indicate on apps, expect some schools to pass on him bc of the incident, and for those that don’t, ensure he’s prepared to address and talk to how he’s grown/matured since then. Has he had a spotless record since the incident? What has he done to demonstrate it won’t be a reoccurrence, eg. counseling/therapy, help others, etc.?

I really don't know if I want a student in my school who has a conviction for a crime against another person.

Whether or not you can get it expunged, a number of med schools ask if you have ever been arrested.

Not all misdemeanors are created equal. What’s the charge?
