Hi, guys . . It's been a while since I posted my last thread.
Today, I have surpring news for you guys; at least it surprised me a lot.

One of my friends interviewed a pharmacy school in Boston. She is not U.S. citizen so has very low chance of entering it; she knew it too. Also, the English is second language for her and she said she totally messed up the interview. She can't speak fluent enough. However, she noticed one of the interviews was familiar to her. . . .

She got a phone call few days later from the interviewer saying, " why did you apply this late? I could have put you into our school if you have applied little earlier."

I have heard it few days ago, and I was shocked. Guess people get into pharmacy school by connection. . . It's not fair at all.
If she have gotten in there, one of the students who are "really" satisfying for the school wouldn't be able to get in there.

I feel insulted that she could have just gotten in with connection. So many people are trying their best of best to get in there. . .

What's you guys' thought with this issue?

That's messed up.
And I've never seen "amazing" being spelled as "amazying" before. Thank you for that, lol.

lol sorry. I'm can't write grammatically perfect english if I don't pay attention to it. I have come across from other country to U.S. 3 years ago. that's my excuse lol. Please let me know if there's grammar error so I can correct it and learn it at the same time.

lol i'm just messing with you. but honestly.. sometimes thats just how life works.
it's not what you know, it's who you know.

That's true. However, her parents know him, not she made relationship with him.
Well, I don't say it's bad thing to take some benefits from parents but I don't like those people who get what they want with help of parents, not with their own effort. I think it's just not fair game.

I'm all for connections. They get you farther in life than school grades do. Like the saying goes, "Smoke 'em if you got 'em."

One thing you need to realize is that life is rarely ever fair and the sooner you understand that the better off you will be. Just because you have talent doesn't mean you will beat out the guy who is clueless, but has the right connections. Don't fret about the things you have no control over and the best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

I have heard about pharmacy schools that favor legacy students i.e. sons/daughters of alumni... even if their application may be "less than par". Schools usually ask if you had any relatives who attended the school so connections are a possibility I suppose..

Thanks All for replying 🙂 I really appreciate all of you guys' thoughts.
weetzie00// I agree with you. I would really be proud of myself since I have lived alone in U.S. for three years and I coudln't get physical support from my parents. I lived in U.S. alone for 3 year, and I had to earn money for all my grocery shoppings, etc. My parents only gave me apartment rental fee. Thank You for saying so 🙂

as many people have already said, "its not what you know, but who you know." Someone well connected will get much further in life than someone who is not.

I heard a few years ago a student got accepted into UOP straight from a community college. It was the only student that UOP had accepted that year from a community college. The reason that student got accepted was his grandfather was somehow linked to the adcom.

The worst thing about it was, before the first year even finished, he quit because he decided pharmacy wasn't right for him. Well, thats what I heard from one of my pharmacist.

My point is, you get jobs based on who you know. I got my first to jobs through connections.

Start making those connections now and you'll be much better off in the long run.

I know a surgeon very well, he is my oncology specialist. he is a doctor at the medical center of my university. One of the interviewer at a school that I apply for was his colleague. my doctor knew that i applied for that school and told me if i have an interview, i should let him know. I was so happy, thinking that he could somehow "help" me get in the school. Then I had interview invitation from that school. I called my doctor and left a message for him via his nurse. I went online and check for the name and face of my doctor colleague, my "potential" interviewer. On the interview day, the P2 Pharm student called my name and told me that I would be the last one to be interviewed because I had to wait for dr X to interview me (my doctor colleague) There were about 100 candidate in that interview which made me feel special. I thought it was a arrangement. During the interview, i performed quite well because i had no pressure at all, i thought i would be accepted. I did not mention my doctor during the interview, assuming my doctor talked to her about me already.
i was put in wait list 2 weeks later, then I called my doctor. I asked him if he had talked to dr X about me, then he said NO, he wanted me to tell him about the interview so that he could be happy for me 😳 He wanted me to get in pharm school by myself.
okay, that was my story. i was a bit upset when he said that because i assumed that he could help me. The P2 student called my name was just a coincidence. anyway, i was very confident during the interview, so that was a good thing about assuming my doc helped me.
He is a very famous surgeon, im proud of him a lot, especially after this incidence.
also, very upset that I was put in waitlist in 5 schools so far and no acceptance yet.

My application was far from competitive, but for the school I really wanted to get in, 2 out of 4 attended that school. One of them knew someone in admissions and after I had nailed the interview there, one of the interviewers told me to say hi to my boss...so I am not sure if my acceptance was helped by that or not, but I am thrilled I got into that school.
