If you get married during med school and change your last name, what does your transcript look like? Are both names on there, or the new one, or just the old one or... Just wondering how it works.

If you are going to change your name do it before you graduate since then only your school has to change it in their records. If you do it afterwards then you have to pay to have your diploma changed etc & it could always lead to confusion later on down the line.

My step-mom got married while in Pharmacy school, her diploma is written first name maiden name last name. No middle name. I just got married, in undergrad though and my transcript has my middle name and not my maiden name. They probably just make you take them your marriage certificate and new social security card, and will then change your name on all of their records to you new name.

For undergrad, your diploma reflects whatever you want it to. If you want your middle name included, then put it. Med school is different because it has to match your medical license (from what I've been told). So if you change your name, it'll be whatever your legal name is. You may still be able to leave off middle name and just go first and last, but you need at least those. If you're not changing your name, no worries, if you are, do it sooner than later to avoid headaches.

At my school, transcripts show first name, middle initial, last name. My maiden name does not appear anywhere. When it comes time to apply for residency, there is a place to put your maiden name on the application. You also have to change your name with the NBME. It's an easy process (just print a form and send it and a copy of your marriage license and perhaps a copy of an ID?) but it does take a couple of weeks. Changing my name with my school was easier than changing my name with my frequent flier accounts.

Why are you changing your name?

I'd like to change mine to cinco nueve
