Getting married during clinical rotations

I would say the only real issue would be if you're planning on taking time off to go on a honeymoon right away. In that case you may want to schedule it during a vacation month or something. Had a buddy who did just that during 3rd year.
I don't think there's a need to wait, never really going to be an "ideal" time as you're going to be just as busy and most likely more so during residency.

Great advice! Just make sure you schedule the ceremony and honeymoon during a month where you are actually allowed to take a proper amount of vacation...

It's definitely possible. I'll be getting married in a few months, when I'll be halfway through my peds rotation. Finding the time to do planning can be a little tricky sometimes, but it's not really that much of a problem. My fiancee did decide to take the honeymoon next summer sometime, since there was absolutely no time during the year when I could take time off.

Got married a few weeks ago - 4th year student - took a 2 week block off for vacation - timed it to so that [for my specialty] it was after residency applications where submitted, but before interviews start.
Late Sept/early Oct of 4th year is a good time - there where several other people in my class who got married during this time too.

Congrats on your engagement! I recently got engaged as well. i plan on getting married 4th year. Our school gives us a few months off throughout the year so my date is set in the middle of one of those months - week for last minute touches and another week or so later for the honeymoon. I think the hardest part is actually trying to plan the wedding during rotatoins. Just make sure you have a good support system. My mom has been great helping me make phone calls, etc!

I had a very small wedding and still found the planning stressful. We did it before graduation but after my rotations were over.
One thing to consider is that if you wait till after graduation and you are female, your maiden name will be on your diploma. This didn't matter to me because I kept my maiden name, but it matters to some people.

she's taking year off to work between cc3 and cc4,
we have a one week sliver of time this nov, so we are cramming the wedding and honeymoon into it
we started to plan the whole thing while i started third year and she finished, then she was working full time +studying for step ii,
it would not have been possible w/o help from family, that was huge
you would think it would be stressful, but it really wasn't bad, it was a chance to exercise time management skills, apropos for our future 🙂

Congrats to the OP. I got married in a small ceremony during a busy month of Peds. I think you can't put things off during rotations, because, well what's your other option, getting married during residency?
A medical career will always be busy and there is no perfect time to do any of those other major life events i.e. marriage, kids, etc.

I say, unless you're having a huge wedding that will require lots of planning and rehearsal, and unless you're planning on taking a honeymoon immediately, just go for it.

If you want any kind of standard wedding and honeymoon, third year is almost impossible. Fourth year however, is very doable, maybe the ideal time to get married for someone in medicine. I took a month off, studied for and took step 2 during the first 2 weeks, married the third weekend, honeymoon the fourth week, back to school to start the next block. Good luck.

I took off May at the end of 3rd year/beginning of 4th year: 2 weeks to study for and take Step 2ck, 1 week for last-minute wedding stuff, 1 week for honeymoon. It definitely felt like a lot of my limited free time during third year went into wedding planning, but otherwise it was fine.
