Hey, I had a quick question. I'm applying right now, but if I don't get in and have to re-apply, I'm wondering about getting more LOR's and possibly removing old ones.

I have 5 in right now, but one or two of them I suspect are not as strong as the others. They're from professors whom I took a class with and did really really well, but they don't know me as well, so I was considering getting more personal ones where the prof knows me better AND I did well. I think I'm allowed 6 total (not sure if this is only my school's limit).

Are you allowed to change who you want to be a recommender from your previous application year? Could I get the new profs and have the old ones removed? I'm not sure if it varies by school or not. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You should be able to change as this is a new application cycle. Does your school have a pre-med committee and do a letter for you or do you go to Interfolio? IF you have a committee, check with them as to their policy.

I guess this goes completely opposite to the questions already asked, but just to make sure, do most premed committees hold on to your old LORs?

I'm hoping to just add a few new ones on top of my old ones, I wanted to make sure I didn't have to get completetly new LORs from all of my old ones too

You might want to talk to your premed advisor about replacing letters - my advisor said that he read all the letters before sending them out, and that if any were unreasonably terrible he wouldn't send them. I should think you'd have no problem replacing a letter that you think might not be as strong.

I too was wondering about how to get new LOR's if I don't get in this cycle; I come from a school with no pre-med committee and the ones I used this time come from 2 sci prof's and current employer. I'll be moving out by summer. I guess I'll have one from whomever my new employer will be but how do you go about getting updated ones from science faculty? I will no longer be their student so they have no obligation to provide one and I'm still debating if to do a post-bacc or masters (and therefore get one from them). Hints/suggestions please 😕

I used the same letters I applied in cycle one. They were stored nicely in interfolio.com 😀. I added another new one though.
