Getting "No Pass" on pre-reqs

To make a long story short I didn't take chem in high school and ended up having a really rough time with college-level chemistry last year. The result was a No Pass in chemistry and chem lab (by the time I realized I was screwed it was too late to withdraw so I just changed the grading option). The rest of the year I took bio courses and some of my major courses and got mostly A's with a couple B's. This summer I took a couple of 100-level chem courses to make sure I was 100% prepared for chemistry (again got A's). I am now most of the way through my second round of gen chem and am right on target for A's in both the lecture and the lab.

Do you think this is enough to redeem myself or are those N's going to haunt me forever? How should I address them in my application?

if you're getting A's now, and if you can take one or two upper level chem classes to show that you understand the material then you will be ok.

I mean, it's semantics; any adcom is smart enough to figure out that "no pass"=F. At least it won't hurt your GPA, but it's still not good.

So far, all you've managed to do is get an A in twice as long as most people; if you manage to get an A in an upper division class, you can say you redeemed yourself.
