What are your thoughts/comments/concerns on the subject? Is it possible/likely to move from waitlist to accepted? If so, is there anything that can be done right now to help? Has anyone heard anything from admissions (at any school) regarding this issue?

I'm OOS on Illinois' waitlist and don't know whether I should hold my breathe or not. 😕😕😕

I was an OOS waitlister for IL last year and got accepted about a month later. I was also on the waitlist for Auburn and got off but decided (due to some dumb thinking on my part) to go to IL.

Unless your letter states that your chances aren't good (in not so many words)

Good Luck!:luck:😀

In general, ad comm seems to be very tentative and not wanting to make any solid wording one way or the other. They can't say you will or won't get in. It depends on where you are on the list. Look at previous year's stats to gauge it a little bit. For example, Iowa accepts 60 OOS/non-contract students and last year went through 128 people to fill those 60 slots. Totally depends on the school, if you're IS or OOS (I saw you're OOS). Good luck!

I'm waitlisted too at 2 schools and am keeping my hopes up! :luck:

Unfortunately, I've found very little information on previous year's waitlist stats for any of the schools I've looked at. Any suggestions there?

Depends on the school. The stuff from ISU was in material I received at the interview. I also e-mailed later to ask the specific numbers. You could always e-mail to find out, it doesn't hurt! I know it's frustrating to not be able to find what you need on-line!

Thanks a lot carrbear! That was really helpful. 🙂

Not to get this thread going too far off topic, but DrDRBaker2B, can I ask you to expound upon your comment in paretheses? As you can imagine that caught my eye and has me concerned about what you mean.

A week before it all started I went to IL and put a deposit down for an apartment and was basically making plans to attend IL. If you can't tell, from my picture, I am from KY so going to Auburn would have saved me a lot of money.
Anyway, I was driving down the road and my cell phone rang. I didn't recognize the number but decided to answer it anyway since it was that time of year when I could be getting calls from schools. BTW traffic was horrible.
The conversation went something like this.....(paraphrased a little I am sure)
"hello",
"hello, this is somebody....can't remember her name now and we have a spot open and was wondering if you wanted it."
(me not thinking clearly, and trying not to crash says)
"well I am already committed to IL and just put a deposit down on an apartment, so no thanks"
"ok, well good luck and thanks for applying to Auburn"
then as I put my phone up, I realized she said Auburn......so pulled over on the side of the road and called the number right back and basically said that I was an idiot and that if the position was still available I would like it......
Was then told that they had already called the next person on the list and they had accepted the position. She then told me she would put my name back on the top of the list and hope another spot became available.

needless to say, I am in IL and there is probably a note in my file at Auburn that says "IDIOT, do not accept"

Word of warning.....don't drive and try to talk on cell phones!!!

Does anyone know what your chances are for getting in off the in state wait list? Any info, especially for VA-MD would be extremely helpful

I would suggest checking previous threads or just e-mail ad comm. They may beat around the bush and say "it varies each year". I'm in the same position at MN and they just said "sometimes it goes way down, other times it doesn't move".

hey..does anyone know how likely it is to get in off the waitlist to Glasgow??..i am on the waitlist..but they have yet to tell me the number or how many ppl are on it..thanks!

DRDrBaker2B.... OMG!!! Wow. I am sooo sorry. This sounds like something I would do, esp. driving in high traffic. At least you're in! But, yeah.....wow.

About waitlists, I was on OK state's waitlist last year and I don't think it moved much. But they also gave us no info where we stood in rankings, so I have no clue where I was on the list.

IS waitlists tend not to move as much. I was one of 15 on the IS (MD) waitlist last year and wasn't lucky enough to get an offer. But people still get in off the waitlist... of course they won't tell you where you stand so you just feel clueless.
